Jim posted this on the Highlights page but I think PowWow gets more traffic....

The full moon seemed to play some tricks early in the hunt but Jim and Irv do a great job, and had me move around till we found the hogs.

Saturday evening I was on a stand in an area I think Jim called the oaks. Jim warned me the hogs could come from a few different directions but to particularly watch the area behind me. At about 6:30pm I saw a smaller brown and black boar behind me.

My wife was sitting with me so I told her to turn the video camera on. As the group came in view I saw there were 4 boars. Two were smaller brown and black and the other two were all black. The one I shot was the largest in the group. Well they all eventually made it to the feeder and doing what pigs do they pushed each other around while they fed. After a while this guy gave me the proper angle and I shot. The hit was good and I saw him go down about 50 yards away.

A couple things made this a special hunt. First my wife sat with me and shot the video and I harvested this boar with a arrow tipped with one of Fred Kasch's Zwickey broad heads. The guys from the WTA and most who have attended Cloverdale, Compton, Mojam or GLLI probably remember Fred.

I can't say enough about Jim and Irv from True South Adventures. With the winter we had this year my wife and I needed some warm weather. TSA had donated a hunt to WTA (WI Trad Archers)and it got me thinking about hunting in FL. I knew TSA had great references, so going with them was an easy choice.

Thanks Irv and Jim.

Congrats Bill, that's a great hog!

I know that hog...had him at 10 yards, three different times when My son Ben and I where down hunting with TSA in January, I just couldn't get it done.

Great job!  Looking forward to hunting with Jim and Irv the end of April!

It was a real pleasure having you and Gail in camp, Bill. Looking forward to the next time!
I'm pretty sure I have that boar on video a couple of times. He was kind of the bully of that spot and I'm sure the younger boars won't miss him:)
Thank you for the kind words.

Well done Bill! My wife and I are headed down to TSA in a week, our 4th trip with Jim & Irv. My wife films with me too and like you, are looking forward to escaping the COLD! Todd

Congratulations again Bill.  That is some perfect pork,  and just so cool that you could make Fred a part of the hunt.  And Gail too!

Nice pig.  Sure is nice getting away from the cold and snow for a week or two.  I did that for the first time this year, it will not be the last time though.

Thanks for the kind words guys, It was really what we needed after this crazy winter. We got lucky with the drive too by not hitting any snow storms either way.

Jim, yes this boar was bullying the other boars.

His sheild was pretty impressive, you could actually see the outline of it up close.

I was ready to take a much smaller one that day but when he came in with the smaller boars I was willing to wait for the shot on him.

Before my trip a guy at my archery club told me a funny story. Apparently one of the compound guys was saying he was surprised guys hunt with trad gear. I guess he thought it is too hard to be accurate without a pin sight. I am not normally the kind of guy that would respond to that but part of me can't wait to show him a pic of my hog. Gotta love that.  ;)

Going to have some good eating from this hog. I got the meat all taken care of last night. With help from my wife we even got the tenderloins trimmed and soaking in brine now....
