Curious? Vented vs non vented flight?

Any experience experimenting with vented versus non-vented broadheads?  PLEASE- I know its about tuning for good flight so no need to post that supposition!  Any real life experimenting all other things being equal??

Dan, these are only my "personal observations". If all things were "'equal", I'd take vented for a slight "forgiveness" of flight.  There may be trade offs though as a vented "may" affect penetration and "may" be noisier in flight.

That being said, I'm currently hunting with a non-vented VPA.

I have found there to be no difference in my personal use other than the vented will make a noise. Not a big enough noise to concern me though.

I have been able to make the biggest non vented broadheads fly where my field tips do with just a little tuning.

What do you mean by this.  I already have shafts cut and dialed in.  What can you do after that fact to tune for a broadhead?

Brace height and nock position, very minor adjustments.

Larger/longer broadheads may require a slightly stiffer arrow than perfect bare shaft. average size broadheads usually fly fine with a tuned arrow.

Some vented heads have proven a little louder to my ears. Some I don't notice. Regarding flight, I've not noticed a significant difference....at least with the ones I've tried.

I had one brand of vented three blades that made a lot of noise.  They flew well and penetrated fine, but they made noise.  I have some vented Simmons heads that I cannot hear at all.

I have shot both on a windy day, and do believe vented are less affected by the wind.

buckrack- which would also suggest a larger 2 blade head is more prone as well-unless it is large AND vented.  ??

Go hunt antelope in Eastern Montana.  Vented is all I shoot these days.  It's a noticeable difference once it gets really windy.

Thanks for the input guys.  Don Adair, buck-I too hunt in wind here in KS- and have really wondered about this. Makes me think about a Simmons- big 2 blade but vented and most of it narrow.  Hmmm
