Finally, for the first time, I'll be shooting woodies this year with my longbow. I received some glue on Eskimos for Christmas, so that will be my new broadhead. I know it's an old time favorite and it must be for a reason. Show me the reason if you use them. (i.e. Big holes and lots of blood    :bigsmyl: )

Not so much "big holes"...there could be a lot of blood.  It all depends.  Eskies fly great, they fly quiet, they sharpen easy, they are very dependable & durable and they look good!  They penetrate as well as any excellent BH and yes, they will make things bleed when placed appropriately.  Sorry no pics of my kills with Eskies but myself and bros have had many deer kills w/Zwickeys.

Jack Zwickey is the nicest man you could ever meet, a real gentleman.  Hard to find something bad to say about any Zwickey head!

Best of luck!

Only complaints I had were with some blue painted Eskimo II heads.  I split the spot welds on three of them and had to silver-solder them to repair them.  Also had a hard time getting them sharp with a file.

Just goes to show that all heads aren't up to woodchuck hunting in rocky soil.

Just because every deer my wife has touched with one those has dropped with in fifty yards, they may not do the same for everyone else.  I like them for her because she can maintain a shaving edge on them herself.

Kris is right, what he said amounts to simplicity. Thats what I think were about. I went other broadheads for other reasons but found that the eskies were as good as any. Having taken metalurgy at a college leavel, I can bore you for hours about mollecular stucture in various steels but I wont. Trust me, it is a boring topic. Yes stick with the eskies and you wont be sorry.

I'm easy to please, I'll accept small holes with lots of blood too.    :biglaugh:

If NY allowed the re-introduced barbed Zwicky's I'd have a quiver full of those.  Has to be the best looking of available high-quality heads for traditional set-ups.  [IMHO]

Those were made in the 80s...and weren't brazened like today.  They are better today that they were back in the day.

Back to the OP....are they 4 blades?

If not, they aren't going to make 'big holes' and will bleed less than 4 blades....but they are still good heads.

I have used them for years. I usually have two or three in my quiver that I chain saw file three or four serrations on the back part of the head. They are real proven killers and let no blood vessel or artery that they touch go uncut.

God bless, Steve

whats do you mean , by serration  ??
a picture ??
thanks ..

They are great heads I've taken a few deer with them, I personally prefer bigger 2 blades or a 4 blade.  4 blades being the preference.
That being said this pic says a lot about how well made these heads are......

Terry, they're two blades. I didn't realize how the four blade were made until after I got them. I didn't want to mess with add-on four blade.
Thanks all.

Didn't Paul Schafer hunt almost exclusively with Eskimos? Correct me if I'm wrong. If true good enough for Paul good enough for all! LOL

Dave Lay

as did chuck adams back in the day before big fame and fortune...not in the same class by any means as paul but as picky about equipment as he was should tell you something about these heads

I believe Paul exclusively used 4 blade, 125gr. Eskimos.
