String Material 8125?

I was wondering if anyone has used BCY 8125 string material to make a Flemish twist string? This material is used in almost all High Performance Compound Bows as is 452X. I have just started making Flemish twist strings and I have D97 and B55, but I wanted to give 8125 a try. Just a little unsure as to how many strands to use, I went by the standard for most string material, being 10 - 12 strands for a 50# Bow. So if any string builders out there have used this material with good results, I would appreciate any knowledge you could share. Thanks.

I'm a Dacron fan, but I have experimented with 8125 and 452. I made strings from both just like I do with B-50 and B-55 with good results. I used 10-12 strands and added 2 of B-50 in each bundle to build them up so my nocks fit better.

8125 is a good material--very similar to Dynaflight '97, just a smaller strand.  I like 12-14 strands with the loops padded to 18 with B-55 when using it.

From my experience, 8125 performs quite well.

You may not wish to utilize rubber type string leach silencers. The thin strands slice right thru string leaches. Used some newer design string leaches back in 2008 and the 8125 was eating through them about every 3 weeks. After the 3rd set, I gradually woke up.

Haven't used those type of silencers since 2008.

I have used and made some 8125 strings,I have used 12 strands with padded loops on bows upto 58#.A 12 strand 8125 is about the same diameter as 8 strands of D97.Fairly skinny string,you will need to build up the serving for nock fit.I double served the ones I made,first with 3D .017 and then with No.62XS.021 just enough area for my nock and fingers.

It's all I've used for the past 6yrs. I've tried other materials, but keep coming back... 14strand 8125, .030 Halo center serving, with an extra 4strands per bundle for the loops.

Never used 8125, but the D97 is good for 8 strand with padded loops to 16 { 8 addititional D97} up to at least #50 @28" with very little creep and VERY QUIET and added a little speed as well. All I use now!! Hope this helps,...Lloyd

8125 is my favorite material as well, but I use 18str on mine with .026 center serving and double serve the end loops on my strings.  Fits my X-nocks well without having to build up the center serving.

Wow! You guys are great, thanks for the number of responses that were sent. I have plenty of string material, I manage a very busy Archery Pro Shop in Albany New York. But new to Flemish string building. Many of you have said you pad the end loops of your Flemish twist string,is this necessary? Or just something everyone likes to do, if it helps I would like to try it and do some experimenting.So in order to add some padding to the end loops, do I just cut the number of strands I would like to add, at the different lengths as I do for my Flemish Twist end? Thanks again all you have been a lot of help.

Some bowyers require it for the warranty, some don't.  It won't hurt anything, and usually makes for a quieter string--especially recurves--if done right.

You have the right idea about adding padding.  Put the same number in each bundle--wax helps hold them in place.  Polyester (B-55) works fine for padding.

The one's I built have been either 12 or 14 strand padded to 16/18. Only difference from Chad's is I usually pad with the same material as the string (regardless of  which material I'm using)...easier for me to keep things consistent.

Ryan, thanks for the video, and thanks to everyone that chimed in, you guys are the best!I have been involved with Archery for over 40 years now, have worked in several pro shops part time while I was on active duty, now retired I manage one. I have gone back to my roots of Traditional Archery, I have a lot of great Trad guys around and have been getting a lot of info and help from them add to that a site like this is just awesome! So much knowledge and always willing to share, it don't get no better! Thanks again.

I shoot a three bundle 9 strand 8125 string on my 55# RC. I put 8125 on every bow I build. Very quick and quiet and plenty strong. It's my favorite.
