I recently introduced my son in law to traditional archery and we have been on a quest to get his first traditional kill with his new bow. He has had a shot on a bobcat, two turkey and friday it was at a hog. We decide to sit in the pop up blind since the wind was so strong and temp was way below freezing. We were situated about 20 yard from the feeder and totally relaxed in our chairs just trying to stay warm. We watched two young does come in and feed and then a young 4 point buck came in. When the feeder went off it was so hilarious to watch those young deer jump and run!
We were hoping for a turkey to show up but all of the sudden my son in law poked me and said "Oh Boy" and here came two hogs just trotting right in to feed at the feeder. I told him to get his bow and be patient, they werent in any hurry and they would feed for a while. He got his bow ready and I told him to pick one out and then settle on a spot to shoot at not the whole pig. The darker of the two turned broadside at 18 yards and I watched him draw that bow back. The arrow took to the air and sailed just barely over the hogs back. My son in law was breathing 90 breaths per minute!!!! The hogs ran off a little ways but then came back and started feeding again. My son in law said "you shoot one" So I got my trust "Canyon Archery Traditions" longbow and nocked an arrow...The two hogs were both broadside one slightly in front of the other. As I drew, the front hog turned to face me and my arrow sailed right by its side and hit home in the hog behind it. They took out of there in a hurry.
We sat for 20 minutes and then decided to go track my hog. Sure enough, 150 yards later, we found him and we both celebrated a successful hunt. My son in law made an awesome track on this hog! I was so proud of him! Soon as he conquers that buck fever, his arrows will fly true!!!

Thanks Guys, it was so dang cold...When we were tracking that hog, both of us could hardly feel the hand that was carrying our bow!  When we found the hog I shot, The other hog was 10 yards away and kinda guarding its friend...We tried to maneuver my SIL for a shot but it finally gave ground and took off...intense times...

Way to go!!!

You SIL is not the first victim of "HOG Fever". Last year I brought back one hog to camp and an empty quiver, my friend about fell down he was laughing so hard.  :)

Way to go Barry! I still can't believe you were hunting Friday. The wind and cold was brutal! You are a lot tougher than me! Glad to read the story!
