I acquired my 66", 55 #@ 28" Texas Ebony Super D on the TG Classifieds in late Summer of this year.  After I figured out the different grip required to shoot this "Hill Type" longbow consistently (I am more accustomed to shooting R/D longbows and recurves), I just hung it on the rack and spent my shooting time on my hunting bows.

As I originally acquired this bow for the Hill Hunters Hog Hunt this coming January in Gawga, I decided that this weekend was the time to get her set up as a back-up bow for the upcoming "Hog Wild" inaugural full camp hunt Dec. 6-8th at Wild Things outside of Estill, SC, as well as the Hill Hunt in January.

200 grain Tuskers or Muzzy's atop 30" AD Trad shafts with 100 grain inserts and three 4" feathers gives me a super-accurate and quiet shooting 665 grain arrow that should put a serious hurtin' on a SC or Georgia hog (hopefully a couple of both    ;) ).

A while back on a "Show Me Your Super D" forum on PowWow, I feel in love with the look of the alligator hide grip that fellow TG member, all-around good guy       and Cajun Chef Extraordinaire, Fred Trehan (awbowman) had installed on his beloved Super D.  A call to Fred and much to my surprise, I had  a beautiful piece of black dyed LA gator hide arrive in the mail.

Here are a few pics of the process of "purdying up    ;) " my Super D and the results:

Bare Super D riser after removing original leather grip and cleaning up.  Almost too pretty to re-cover!

Here is another finished pic.  I thought of dying the sinew black, but kinda like the contrast!

Still plenty of material left for side-plates!

Not a professional job, but I'm pleased with the results.

Thanks, Fred    :clapper:   !!  I look forward to hunting with you sometime!

Looks good Bob, glad you like it.

I have some snag woodies tipped with 175 grain Simmons (600 grains) for those Gawga piggies!  Hope to see you there.

Thanks guys!  Awbowman (Fred), your cooking is most welcome anytime.  I need to work out a trip to the swamps of Louisiana for 2014!

That bow looks great even without a grip wrap. I like the wood grain a lot.

Never question a man's choice in bows or the quality of an animal he kills.  He is the only one who has to be satisfied with either of those choices.

rbcorbitt

Ken,

Yep!  Same here.  Good luck on your Radford Arsenal Hunt.

I know it was a tough choice!

You will be missed!

Cool grip Bob. How does it feel compared to Beaver Tail?
