Never been fond of buying scent control products. The first 5 or so years I would buy and use it all. I went through college and didn't have much spending money so I had to hunt without those products. Since then I've hunted with the wind hitting my face, high treestand, and rubber boots. I've killed just as many if not more without all the scent products. I'm assuming being on their level changes the game up though... I may be looking back into those methods unfortunately.

My main problem with hunting from the ground for whitetails is getting picked off by their eyes. ASAT camo seems to be better about it if I don't get caught moving. On my last two ground hunting experiences I didn't have my ASAT on and got picked off twice while motionless. Had my ASAT on during one hunt last week from the ground and drew on a six pointer at 12 yards and didn't get busted until I let the string down easily when I passed on him. Haven't gotten busted by their nose yet this season and I just use the wind to my advantage without using any cover scents or sprays and stuff like that.

edge2009, You don't necessarily have to use All the scent control products. Many good ideas and methods on my thread " Methods for lowering your level of scent output and other such stuff". Just trying to help you out bro. In case you haven't checked it out, it's an interesting read if nothing else. Best of luck to your season. Knawbone

So. . Why Were You Busted ?  Stop That.  Learn To Defeat The Deer.   You Did Some Things Wrong, So Figure It Out And Do It Different.  At Least You Are In An Area Where You Saw Deer, So That Is A Plus.

If you want to kill deer on the ground you better mask your scent.Big difference between being 18 to 20 feet up and on the ground. Two scents I've been using with success are Dan Fitzgeralds VK and Deer Dander.
