Pat B.

I was drifting through the woods practicing.. I had an Ace blunt and was shooting at clods and clumps, having a fine time.  The trail I was traveling down was thirty feet wide and meandered in a  southerly direction. This was good since the slight breeze was coming from the south.  Having the wind in your face is a bit of an advantage, no?

After traveling 3/4 of a mile I saw a wee little pig on the edge of an opening, he was perhaps 75 yards distant.  Surely he wasn't traveling alone. I pulled an arrow with a razor sharp broadhead glued on.  I hustled trying to get in range and while doing so more and more pigs filtered into sight. There were probably 20 in all, none very big but two or three were certainly larger than the rest. I spent thirty minutes in and out of the group trying to get a decent shot at one of the larger ones.

The evening breezes swirled  several times and I thought I was going to be discovered.. And I was, but they just became suspicious and never really spooked.

The more time I spent in their midst the greater the chances were becoming of me losing any opportunity..

Most of the pigs including the two I really had my eye were well in front of me. I was even with several that were off to my left.. They were about 30 yards out and suddenly decided they needed to catch up with the others. They closed up shop and started trotting broadside to me. I looked ahead and there was a small opening they were going to pass through about 20 yards away. As they approached the opening I drew the longbow and swung with the largest one. As he got in the clear I pushed the bow out in front a little and released the arrow.

Using up a considerable amount of luck, I watched as the arrow passed through the little pig, right behind his shoulder.  Man !

"Little Pig" ????  Yikes!!   Pat we are just going to have to change your screen name to "The Big Bad Wolf".  Those pigs are going to be looking for bricks!

Thanks again!
