Boyne, MI Archery Question

Hi guys, my family and I are headed to Boyne MI in a week for our summer vacation, any suggestions on places to shoot? Any archery related places to visit or see? I'm wondering if it is worthwhile bringing our bows as space is limited. Thanks!

Hi Roverich, try Woodswalk archery. Elk Lake RD Williamsburg MI. The range is owned by  Dan and Donna Krogel. Donna is the Dist 2 Govenor for the Michigan Bowhunters assoc.
They also shoot trad  bows.

Yes Dan has the best 3-D course in northern Michigan.  Please fill out the release form and pay the $10 donation.  If you go to the U.P. for the day and head east on 2, the Hiawatha Sportsman Club has a nice course in Engadine at the golf course. You could also shoot the Grayling Sportsman.s Club course at Hanson Hills in Grayling.  Nice walk in the woods.

Thanks! How about in the Gaylord State Forest Area, can one hike the trails and stump shoot?

I was never bothered doing such things. There aren't any game seasons open so you should be ok shooting stumps.

Dan's course in Williamsburg is a great shoot! Usually not a lot of people around, and a really fun 30 target course through the woods. There's a few benches to stop for a rest, with a cooler full of cold refreshments. Dan and Donna are two of the best people you could ever meet, and traditional to the core! Here's a few pics from my first visit to the course this year.

Targets 20, 21, and 22 are from an elevated platform about 15ft above the targets that are about 17, 22, and 14 yards.  Through the woods, up and down hill shots, and every sort of target that you'd want to shoot. It's a great time, but don't forget your bug spray! Lol

I believe that you will need a small game license to stump shoot on public land. Due to the fact that there is open season on certain critters...red squirrel,skunk,etc

Wife is from the Boyne area.  The area mentioned to shoot is quite a distance south of Boyne.  I know of no archery range or shop in the Boyne area and believe me I have scoured the area while visiting the in laws, lol


Gaylord Michigan is a bit S/E, maybe 30 miles.  There is a real nice sporting good store there called Jay's.  It is right off I-75 but they have a very limited supply of traditional stuff but lots of crossbows and compounds. They do have a great rifle and clothing department.

In Michigan you have to have a small game license and wear hunter orange to be in the woods with a weapon because of open seasons on some game.

I wouldn't say a "quite a distance". Less then an hour to Williamsburg from Boyne Mountain or Boyne Highlands.  And Hiawatha Sportsman Club is in Naubinway not Engadine.

Hey guys, thanks for the great recommendation. Turns out we spent last PM in Traverse City and Woodswalk Archery was only 20 mins from our place.

What a great course! Tons of fun and very well set up for the traditional archer. I would highly recommend the course to anyone in the area!
