Depends on what I want to do.  If I want the arrow to stop as soon as possible then I use spiral fletch.  But in general I carry a six fletch doing elk & deer season for blue grouse.

About the only time I would pass up a grouse is if I was about to stalk a bigger critter.
I find the older I get, the less I used to know!

Spiral.... They look the best.. To me.

I like spiral for aerial target practice and 4 4" for hunting

4 5" work great for me. Stumpin with flu flu's is about as fun as it can get!

I prefer either 4x4" feathers that are moved down the shaft from where cut feathers go in order to keep the ends from poking me in the eyes or 6x3" feathers glued to the shaft in the same place as your normal fletching but with the rearward tail cut perpendicular to the shaft so they don't poke me in the face.

I use them a lot for stump-shooting, squirrel hunting, and rabbit hunting.  I like the increased visibility that they offer more than than the drag so I try to build them to be fairly fast shooting for a flu-flu.

For arrows that you want a lot of drag on then using a 4-6 feather spiral is the way to go.  That puts a lot of barbs out there bushed up and really slows the arrows down fast.
