Hey guys I am new to archery and bows, one week in to be exact. I just got myself a Samick Red Stag 45# recurve one piece, loving every second of it. Been practicing up to about 10-15 yards now getting pretty good with it. I was a high school and college athlete so muscle memory is built into me.

Any tips on how to shoot improve on my form and accuracy is welcomed!

What a lovely bow!

in the words of Maurice Thompson from the Witchery of Archery - "In archery there is no excellence without great labour."

Thankfully it is a labour of love.

enjoy the sport and the site!

First of all Welcome! You should work on getting your form downu first before you worry about aiming. Start off shooting at about 5 yds at blank target. Once have your form down then start aiming while maintaining your form. Start at 5 yards and when hit where you looking every shot move back about about 2 yards. When you hit that everytime move back 2 more yards and if  you aren't consistent move up 2yards work on that until you get as far as you want. That will help train yourself on yardage. You may even post this on shooters forum to get more help.

Try to shoot with someone who has been doing it for a while, in my experience stick-bow shooters are helpful to a fault, being with someone who can see a bad habit and help you get out of it shortens and cheapens the learning curve. Use your best judgement on any hard-line advice, like you "have to have" a piece of equipment or you can only do something one way, practice and if it stops being fun then you're doing something wrong, ENJOY.

Welcome,
I would suggest seeking out a local traditional club if you have one. Good people with good advice plus a lot of fun! It sure helped me along.

That is a nice looking bow. However, if you are like so many of us, it is just the first of many. Trad is so much fun, and there are so many cool bows, you will no doubt end up wanting a bunch of them. What a delightful addiction you are heading toward. Welcome to the group. You will truly enjoy Trad Gang.
