Man, it seems as though there is a lot more wood arrow guys on here than I had thought. I have heard a lot of mixed reviews on wood and I have always shot GT 5575s or 2117s. I have been contemplating buying some woodies for my new to me HH Owl. The only issue I am having is getting the right one's. I can't just swap out tips and what not, while tuning the bow if they don't spine well.
You can, actually. 3rivers makes a glue on adapter that weighs in at about 50 grains and lets you screw on any point you want.

I currently make (put together) all my arrows. I have been shooting GT1535 Trads out my bought bows (FF string)and POC woodies out of my selfbows.  I am planning on going to woodies for all my bows. Hint Hint. They are the most fun to shoot.

Great looking arrows guys! I think I'm going to shoot bamboo, until I can take the wood arrow class at Raptor Archery.

Austin Brown

I mainly shoot wood, Surewood douglas fir and tapered chundoo.  Also shoot some aluminum 2018,2020, and 2216.

This year..... Easton Legacy 2016's Fletched by my youngest son Tyler!!! It's time for him to learn to fletch/build arrows.

Over the years, I have shot mostly wood arrows built by fellow TradGanger, and good friend, Joe Skipp. I also have about 20 Autumn Orange 2016s that belonged to a dear friend, who's passed on... Joe crown dipped, crested, and refletched them and they are used only for hunting arrows.

I'm getting together a supply of Legacy shafts & feathers, for Tyler to get started. He is VERY EXCITED, and depending on how ambisious he gets over the summer... We may be shooting aluminium for a LONG time!!!!!
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

There is a fine line between Hunting, & Sitting there looking Stupid...

Being a beginner I recommend starting with aluminum or carbon. Reason being you will want to master your shooting form and these two options are much easier to tune consistently from shaft to shaft. If you begin with wood and you have bad arrow flight you may not know if it is the arrow or you that needs adjustment.

Tree Killer,

Where did you purchase those woodies or did you build them yourself? Those arrows are beauties!
