Maineac,
The hunt was in Texas out of Rocksprings down by Del Rio. It is a ranch that I have hunted for years and do the hunt on my own. The birds were a little behind this year from what they have been in the past, still in large groups and not wanting to come in real well. This bird came in with a group of birds and began to work over my jake decoy and I ran one through his neck at the base but missed the bone and he ran off. It was a long track job but there was good blood early then it went to just looking, but it all worked out and I found him in an oak thicket. The shot was first at about 10 yards and I flew through the feathers as he strutted at the decoy, but was able to grab another arrow and hit him at around 20 yards as he was trying to figure out what happened.
I love the states that open up early and allow me to spread out my season, I was in Florida the week before but never had one in bow range. Called in several nice toms but all would hang out to far for a bow shot.
I had Tony Kinton who is the Hunting Editor for the Primitive Archer Mag. along with me on this hunt in TX. and he had 8 shots at under 10 yards and missed all. So all in all it was a great hunt.

What is man without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone, men would die from great loneliness of spirit, for whatever happens to the beasts also happens to man. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the children of the earth

Congrates Mike. Beautiful bird! The birds are way behind here in Wis. also. Still lots of snow and cold temps.

Nice Mike. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who can miss them under 10 yards. Way to keep after them and good work finding your bird after the blood trail gave out.
