What's the difference other than grip and which is best?

Not sure, but there is the whip HS that may have a bit more reflex/deflect built into the limbs. And as mentioned, the grip is different.

Good question though.

I just ordered my second Whip HS from Dan this past week...great bows

TxAg

My understanding is that it is the same bow with the only difference being the grip.

That's how it looks on the web site.

I've shot a lot of Dan's bows.  Right now I'm shooting a 62" Whip HS. I really love this bow.

For information's sake they are not the same bows, I have talked to Dan about it but do not remember the particulars. He would be the one to contact about that. That said, I owned Standard Whips before changing over to Classics and the only difference I noticed in shooting the two was in fact the grip.

What Jim said about the grips. The HS whips are the 62" models on down in size . Dan reworked the ends so they open up a little more and make them a bit quicker and I think stack longer in the draw.
His classic whip has the leather grip and is more longbow like in cut where the standard whip, he said, is more recurve like.

I went from shooting one of his 66" classic whips to a 64" classic whip a little while ago. I like the 64". Never shot a 62" hs. Waiting for Jim to send me one of his, lol.

Todd, sorry but I have no more Whips. For quite awhile now I have found myself shooting a couple of Super Ds 90% of the time and I have whittled down to those 2 bows. This is even though the HS Whips are the finest shooting bows I have ever shot period! Exactly what finds me with only Super Ds is hard to finger but I really, really like them.
