Thanks Terry G. for allowing this post... Utah G&F is seeking help identifying a moose poacher. Here is the link to the article;

TTT. Maybe someone's seen these arrows around?

Never thought I'd see someone actually poach an animal with a trad bow. Just seems odd to put all that work into doing it 'the hard way' and then cheat...

He must be an Idiot to shoot a moose illegally with arrows that have a traceable mark burned into them. I hope they get him and punish him to the fullest degree!!!!

One question I do have is why they waited so long to bring the story forward. Seems a bit late to be hearing about it, 3 months after the fact actually...

It makes me sad! Nothing but a bottom feeder!

That burned in crest looks vaguely familiar-seen that before.........is there any way to get it out into this thread for all to see? Perhaps others have seen it before too.

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it's going to launch you into something great.

Like this Bjorn?

Thanks for answering my question Terry!

Conner Parry

I read and interesting post about this today that got me thinking. What if the guy actually had a moose tag. Maybe he got two arrows in the bull and lost the blood trail or the animal ran off and died without the hunter finding it. The moose was shot during season in an area that allows hunting for moose, I don't think we have been given enough information on the story to assume that a crime has been committed. I am not saying that the moose wasn't poached. With the information given, there could be a possibility that this animal wasn't poached and there could be a hunter out there looking for a moose that he legally shot and couldn't find. I would hate to see someone labeled as a poached if they didn't poach.

I'm with Conner here, a lot of jumping to conclusions as there wasn't any real info provided in the article.  Labeling the subject a poacher without providing any facts does nobody any good, particularly us bowhunters.  I'd be curious if UF&G actually used the word "poacher" when providing the information to media.  Last time I checked, when it comes to the law, a person is innocent until proven guilty.  Hopefully the hunter comes forward and provides an adequate explanation to the situation.

The number of tags awarded for bull moose would be very low. One would hope the recipients have been interviewed and that the DFG would have eliminated the above possibility. I have hunted UT frequently and have found them to be vey helpful and very thorough.

I saw this posted on another site and i said the same as Bjorn.I just cant remember where i saw it,but i think it was posted on a arrow thread on one of these sites,in the past.I must admit, that after reading the article i had the same type thoughts as Conner Parry and slivrslingr.I wonder,if it wasnt one of those legal tag holders and due to the rare opportunity of drawing this tag, they didnt wanna punch a tag for an animal they couldnt find, and didnt admit to it.
Target archery is seeing how far away you can get and still hit the bull's eye. Bowhunting is seeing how close you can get and never miss your mark.

Roadkill

Maybe UFG isn't showing all thier cards.  Maybe they have some slivers of info from the scene which seals the case they do not want to expose until in court.  My son in law is a detective and he is pretty closed mouthed about a case until before a judge.  That protects the case and allows questions to be asked in a manner to sew up the verdict.

Maybe it is an honest mistake, someone knows but the rest may never know!

I agree there may be more to this story than appears on the surface. But if the owner of the arrows has nothing to hide I would think he would like to set the story straight...... Terry

I would think the UFG would not let out all they know and if the hunter did not do anything wrong you would think he would have heard something about this by now and came forward to explain. I hope the hunter just has not heard about it yet and did not do the wrong thing. If not I hope the UFG get there man.
