I had a nice hunt after work tonight.  There is a spot that is usually productive with a north wind this time of year at my parents cabin.  I was able to get there, climb the hill, and get settled in by 4:00.  I did bump 2 deer (does I think) on my way in and hoped they didn't alarm any others that may be in the area.  It was pretty windy and at 5:10 I heard the crunch of leaves to my left, it was a basket racked 8 pointer.  I haven't been seeing a lot of deer this year and decided I would take the first deer that presented a good shot opportunity.  He did just that and I made a good shot at about 8 yards or so.  I followed his run and climbed down after a bit to look for blood.  As it turned out he didn't bleed externally but I was able to follow his path to where I last saw him and there he lay.

To make it extra special I got him with a zebrawood longbow I made and gutted him with a knife that I made with a piece of bubinga that was left over from a bow that I made for my wife.  What a great feeling!

Its not the size of the animal you hunt that matters. Its how you hunt the animal.

Congratulations Jay!  That's extra special to take a deer with your own homemade equipment.  We'll work on getting your doe tag filled this weekend.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways-BOW in one hand-ARROWS in the other-Body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming-WOO HOO! WHAT A RIDE!

Well done, Jay. An earned feeling of accomplishment.
