Has anyone used Bear Paw feathers?

I was getting ready to put in an order for some more rudders for my arrows and see that Bear Paw is doing feathers now. Anyone used them? Specifically their shield cut?

AWPForester

All I use.  5 inch RW Shield.  They are ground very evenly and flat.  All in all per 100 lot I have ordered, as good as any other I have used that cost much more.  And I have ordered quite a few now.  God Bless

I'm using the 5" LW shield and I'm very happy with them.

snag

I like them. I fletch all my own arrows with shield cut. The dye goes clear into the base..no white base. The feathers are constant and seem to be a little more sturdy than some other makes. The bases are not as hard as TrueFlights. They contour to the surface you gluing them to really well.

I have a batch of arrows fletched with Bear Paw 5" shield LW, and they are doing fine and holding up well.  I agree with Snag about the bases not being has hard, but the fletched up nice and are holding up as good as Gateway or TrueFlights.

I use 4" shields for the youth arrows as well as most of my own (when I'm not putting Magnus' low pro nanner's on 'em).  They're very well cut/ground....the bases seem almost polished.  Great feather at the best price going.

They are clean ground like a trueflite and thick like a gateway, making them better than both. My only complaint is that the barring sucks. Truflite has the best barring.

I've used several hundred with no failures or complaints.  Will be ordering more soon.

I've just finished off 100 white 5" shield rw.  There were about 10 that I wouldn't use in the bunch due to ragged cut or extrememly thin base.  Over all good experience and priced well.  From my experience the True Flight feathers were cut and ground a little better.

britt

They are great. No problems for me. Nice price.

I have only bought 100 full lengths.
The feathers themselves hold up fine.

The bases were very nicely ground.
Every bit as good as trueflight...maybe better.

When it's time to order more as long as the price stays down I'll be buying bearpaw.

Even if they were the same as truflight in price I'd buy the bearpaw simply because they have a color I really like.

Dirtybird

Yes I agree with everyone else very nice.

trick00

No complaints here, they seem to be as good as any, do prefer the truflight barring though.

Butternutz

Started using them about year ago,I shoot at least hundred arrows a day and stacked many of arrow side by side. Each time I am amazed how well they hold up. You can't go wrong here. Don

I started using them several months ago and so far I am very pleased with how they look and perform.

WESTBROOK

Zradix,  how was the usable feather quality on th full length. Last couple 100 true flights have been kind of ragged.

Hey westbrook..
Sorry I didn't catch this sooner.

Just happened to be doing a search on these this morn and re-read this thread.

I've owned only 200 full length bearpaws at this point.
On average the Bearpaw have had maybe 1/2" more usable feather than trueflights.

I haven't had any notable issues with truflight or bearpaw for ragged feathers.

Out of a hundred there will be a few that are a little rough toward the front..but not so many I got upset about at all.

I'd say both brands are about equal in this regard....but it sounds like you have had worse luck than me.

In all honesty, I'm planning to stop chopping after I go through what I have.

Seems no one makes a feather you can get 2 4.5" fletch out of anymore....and I don't like using the skinny based tail ends anyhow.

used to be able to chop 2 outta each feather and save about 40% over pre cuts.

Now you can get bearpaw 100ct 5" shields for $35.
100 full length costs $38.
4" are only $28/100ct.

Not going to 4" but the savings are there.

so I can save $3..(big deal).. but I don't need to spend time cutting to length, tapering the base front, chopping...THAT is a pretty big savings of TIME.
