Thanks for all the comments now in the tradition of "Wingnut" comes the story. It's about an hour and 45 mins from my house to our land in north Arkansas. My son and I and a friend left in a light rain and pretty heavy fog. The rain was suppose to have been gone by morning but it seemed to want to linger. We knew there was suppose to be a high wind move in about mid morning. We arrived about 45 mins before shooting light except we now figured shooting light was going to be about 30 mins late because of the weather. We readied and talked about fog and didn't expect to have much of a day because of it. We left out toward our spots that morning mine a ground blind in a very good spot. I was in the blind and settled in about 10 mins before 7. I had seen and missed a good seven point here just two weeks earlier. I had tapped my arrow against the raiser of my bow as I was startled by the nice deer that evening late I wasn't going to let that happen again so there I set with bow in hand and arrow in my right hand ready to slip onto string when needed. About 7:10 I saw movement and just then the deer stepped into my view. It was stareing right at my blind! I froze and waited heart in my throat. A moment later it moved a few feet and started feeding on the acrons. I slowly moved to put arrow nock onto bow string and got bow in ready position when it suddenly look up right at the blind again. Now there was a very over cast sky and still a light fog. I was in a ground blind with a see thru face mask on trying to make out the deer and all that was happening. I wasn't sure I would be able to pick a spot to shoot. The deer lowered its head again to feed. I raised my bow drew and looked for the spot. Yep there it was, I could make out the deer and more importantly the shoulder area. I had judged the distance at 15 yards. I aimed took a breath, funny I so vividly remember taking that breath, and released. Now you veterans know that thump sound of arrow hitting body. Man it was a nice sound for me that morning. The deer whirled and ran about 15 yards and stopped. I saw it there looking back at me and wondered. It went another 10 or 15 yards and went down. I heard it go down. I went to check arrow and it had blood tip to nock. It was a good hit. I got in touch with my son, he had prearranged for me to get him if I scored, and the rest is history. It was a good double lung shot arrow went thru and thru. It was a good morning. Yes Mike you are right. It has been a long time coming and I've worked very hard for this day. Thank you for being there most of the way. You've been coach, mentor, and mostly friend thru most of the way. Thanks for the great bows you have made for me and the great times we've had together. We do need to go hog hunting again soon!!

My first was about the same size. I didn't care one bit. I've gotten pickier with age, but I've also had tag soup a few times because of it. That one will taste WAY better than tag soup!

What an incredible day!  Words absolutely fail to describe how proud I am that I was able to be with my Dad when got his first traditional kill.

This past year we went out on a limb together and bought a small piece of ground in a county with a good deer population.  It's over a two-hour drive from the house, but we've spent the last several months making that trip together, preparing stands and getting the lay of the land. On Saturday it finally paid off!

I believe that memories are life's greatest treasures and, while we've made a lot of memories together, this hunt is one of those memories that I will cherish for years and years to come!

Good job Dad!  Let's go do it again...
