Anyone use those wood arrow adapters to use screw- ins on your wood shafts?

Shakes.602

I never have, always used the Good Old Glue On Tips. I Also Glue my tips on with JB Weld, and those Bad Boys  STAY PUT!!  Just a "Tip".

Yep I have. Can't find em. Know who has em?

I have some on flu flus because I needed to make em a little longer. Haven't use em for hunting or seen how they pull out of a target. The ones I have are wider than the shaft not like a taper hole or something. Don't know where to get em I just ended up with a few.

I have used them and found it necessary to spin test them with the point screwed in. I grind my shaft point tapers for best accuracy but still had trouble getting the adaptors on with perfect alignment. I used melt-on glue for the adaptor as I found it necessary to re-adjust the point/adaptor on each arrow to get the point straight for concentricity with the shaft.

Horatio, I have some around here.  Don't remember how many, but you can have em for postage.

I know somebody that has some on his arrows. they seem to work pretty good.

giff

only negative I can think of is that they make the arrow longer, so change the spine slightly.

You can also make your own by cutting the appropriate size/ ID aluminum arrows 2"-4" behind the insert.  Then slip the aluminum tips over the wood shafts and glue.  This does two things, it adds greater strength to the wood shafts and it allows you to use screw-on heads.

heydeerman

I think elflanders idea would work better than the aluminum adapters.

maxwell

Any idea on what size fits for 5/16 or 11/32 alum.cuttings on wood shafts?

LittleBen

5/16 wood  = .3125"   2215 ID = .313" ... maybe 2214 is better
21/64 wood = .328125  2315 ID = .329375"
11/32 wood = .34375"  2415 ID = .345"
23/64 wood = .359375" 2514 ID = .362625"

As far as I can tell 2514 are only available as Easton Grand Slam Digital. All shafts are available individually from Lancaster Archery so you dont have to buy a dozen. The inserts are cheap and 1 aluminum shaft of 32" should make at least a dozen screw in footing adapter thingies. I think I calculated you can get a dozen of these made for like $10 or less. Much less if you dont need 2514 which are about $2 more each.

So those are probably your best fits, although with the number of different aluminums out there, you might measure your shafts with a caliper first, or just be prepared to hit em with some sandpaper.

Just remember ....
with aluminums, 2016 means 20/64" outer diameter and .016" wall thickness.

And yes I know this is an older thread but I found it while trying to determient the best sizes, so hopefully this spares the next guy some trouble.

Bowwild

I've always thought those ones that were bigger than the shaft were too ugly. I know, pretty doesn't kill and ugly can but...

Surewood Steve

I agree with Bowwild, if it is not pretty I don't shoot it.  It had to look good, that is why I back taper all my shafts and use 4" four fletch.  Cool looking!!!!

LittleBen

Roy, theres no doubt they're ugly.

Frankly I think all the screw on point conversion setups look ugly as sin. I just figured it might be easier/cheaper for some to use aluminums than those special threaded jimmy caps they sell.

Steve, don't worry all my surewoods are getting nice point tapers on the jig I built as per your recommendations! And for unrelated reasons I'm going to 4 fletch as well.

Cheers
