Good.  I have met a couple of guys that maybe I can at least start turkey hunting private land there this spring since they only deer hunt.  This led to deer hunting chances in NY, so you never know.  Might be able to coyote hunt also, so there is hope.

I shot this one early last week. 16 yard shot and watched him fall out at about 60-70 yards. Not the best picture, but it was late.

Todd took me out to his place last night. In four hours I saw nine deer. The only shot opportunity was on a button buck, so no shot. That place is crawling with deer. Acorns were popping the ground all over.

With all those doe around I'm sure a nice buck is near.

Thanks for the fun Todd. That's the most deer I've seen in one sit.

The Night Stalker

Well with the frost, I started hunting the mountains. Last night, red fox ran by and a basket rack 8 right under the stand. I also seen the neibors dog three times. This morning I had another different little buck under the stand at about 15yds and a small raccoon. Camera shows small bucks everywhere. It looks like the management plan is working. I am hoping to shoot a long nose doe for jerky.

Tim, I know exactly what you are talking about. I use to be in a club close by home that if a deer stuck his head out during gun season , he was toast. Property was sold 4 years ago and new owner did not lease to the club. After some really selective logging and being lucky enough to have met the new owner and done some work for him, the time off has done wonders for the deer. I've passed a bunch of nice young 2 1/2 to 3 1/3 yr old bucks this year on this piece. Hell , I been trying to shoot a doe since the season came in and can't get a shot at one.  It's a good problem to have. too many small bucks.

Just a heads up Tarheels, especially Piedmont areas...

Yesterday I saw a spike near a major highway in open daylight. Unusual for the area. I have begun to see deer on the road dead, more so than usual. Today I had to put down a buck that was hit by a car in the middle of Greensboro, no where near the countryside. It did a number on the Mercedes that hit it.

I'm thinking early signs of rut. I have seen a couple of scrapes in the woods while hunting too. Seems a bit early, but mother nature does what she wants.

I am up here working in Ohio and the locals have been telling me the same information for the past couple of weeks.  Scrapes all over.

Thanks awbowman!

This evenings report:
My son and I were hunting a new set on a hardwood ridge over looking a 3 acre pond. Around 7:00pm we began seeing movement. We ended up watching 8 does all pretty good size feeding on acorns. They never came any closer than approx 35 yards, so no shot was taken. We also saw 3 raccoons and atleast 10 squirrels.

I did take note of where they were feeding and picked out a tree or two to climb in the next few days. I'll keep you updated on this spot.

As for what I have been reading on here about scrapes. I know of atleast 12 just around my house. They are popping up everywhere.

I saw 11 deer and one big bear this afternoon. The bear at 4:20 and all the deer from 6:10 till dark. Could have put the hammer down on three of them but indecision got the better of me.

Oh by the way, I did shoot a nice doe on monday afternoon. quickest hunt of my life. As I was climbing into the stand the doe was coming at about 40 yrs out.  hardly had time to pull my bow up and nock an arrow. she passed at about 22 steps and made it another 40 or so yards. 50lb widow, razorcap head. plenty of blood. no pics. sorry
