Is there anyone in the Mt. Pleasant, Michigan area that would be willing to help my nephew get started in trad archery. He has a recurve ordered, but needs help getting the correct arrows, then setting up the bow, and maybe a little instruction to get him started.

He order the bow through a local sport shop, so I don't know how knowledgeable they are when it comes to archery gear, particularly trad gear. Doesn't sound like they were able to even help him determine his draw length.

Any help would be much appreciated.

He is just south of Jay's in Clare, Michigan. I am sure someone in there can help him.  also go to the Michigan Longbow and Michigan Traditional Hunters club site.  Soemone there will speak up.

Scroll down on the forum home to find those two sites.

Can your nephew make it to Compton's next week in Berrian Springs? I'll bet he could get all the help he needs right there.

Jays is the place, They had some good guys in there before. Ask for Eric Bell, if he still works there he will set you up right and proper.

Thanks, guys.

I thought about Compton, but that would be a bit of a drive.

I'll with the clubs, and have him go to Jay's.

He does have a computer, and I suggested that he join Tradgang. I'm just getting ready to call him, so I'll pass along some additional info.

Thanks again.

Gary,

James lives west of town on Littlefield. You must be fairly close to each other. I'll give him your email.

Thanks!

Jay's at clare is a bit of a drive from here (48761 here) but I'd be more than happy to help him out if you can't find someone closer. The big shoot in grayling is coming up as well and we'll be there.

I'm in St. Joseph so not much help form this distance. There is a good shop in Greenville called Black Dog Outfitters, Tom Hackbart, one of the proprietors is a trad guy. If he can make it to Berrien Springs for the Compton event I'll show him around. PM me he would like to come.

Oh lordy, he is doomed.  Gary sets the trad hook pretty deep.  Gary taught me how to shoot about 30 years ago and now just look at me.   :knothead:

Brian,

That's what I'm hoping will happen with James!

When I got the call about him wanting to shoot a bow, I thought he was going to ask me about compound devices! I guess 'cause they used trad gear in "The Hunger Games", that's what he wanted to use. Now I find out that his younger brother Matthew was given a bow too. Can't wait to get down there and shoot with them. Had originally planned to take the family there next month, but I don't think it's not going to happen until sometime this fall.

I'm hoping to make it to the Compton Traditional Rendezvous next year. Looks like I'll have at least two youthful archers in tow!

Thanks for all the offers of help.
Chuck
