Pork for the grill...

Headed over to Fort Stewart this morning. Hot,Humid and gnatty but I was hunting pork so it was great. Parked at the Lucky Live Oak. Tigue,Peckerwood,CJ and Jacobsladder all have spent an evening or two here and can attest to how "gamey" it is.

      Do I smell pork on the grill?

Made a loonngg loop in the swamp. Went across and old dike that once held water for a Rice Field many many years ago...

 

Then on through to a place by an old homestead. There was an old man made pond here with a Dam called the "Preachers pond dam". A cool place. It got its name from a hunt myself and Mudfeather went on with a beginning longbowman with us. A good friend of ours and a Preacher. We got on pigs on the dry side of the dam and the Preacher missed one. He was so excited he could hardly talk. So the place got a name. That was near eight- ten years ago.
 Today I was easing along the dry side and spotted two small boars. I quickly got to within 75 yards. One pig was to my left and the other to the right. The wind changed and the pig to my left smelled me and broke camp. He was far away enough from the other pig that it did not hear its Buddy run. I quickly closed the gap and the pig started from left to right. I hit anchor and the arrow was gone without thought.. I don`t know if thats good or bad. I practice all the time paying attention to form and push and pull and anchor and...all that stuff. When I shoot at a critter I can`t remember any of it.I heard the arrow hit and saw feathers about right. The pig ran hard and went down in sight.I stepped off the shot and it was 18 yards. Kinda long for me but I have been practicing. The Blood trail was 31 steps and a bloodtrail it was.....

A good day and Thanks to the Good Lord for letting me enjoy it.I was home by 2:00. On the way in while driving I saw a Bald Eagle sitting on a pig carcass beside the road.Thought it was a giant Buzzard at first.RC

Congrats on another RC.  Not sure about the shooting but it seems most of my best shots, I don't remember anything but having a shot and starting to draw. Either way you done good.

Good shootin RC. Every time you post about Ft. Stewart it brings back old memories of the yrs. I hunted it. $2.00 for a day pass or $10.00 for a yearly pass...been a while.

Good job RC as usual! Our hog hunting on pubic landed ended when Turkey season did 1st of this month. Need to find some private land that hold some.
