Good guesses. Here is a another picture to give some size perspective. In this picture, you can see the cargo pocket of my buddy's pants as he reaches around the right side of the tree. He's standing, not kneeling. I would guess that the critter's ear is a foot or two past where the cargo pocket is.

I was going to say opossum, until I saw that last photo with the track. Now, I'm just glad I don't hunt in your area!

It's a young black bear, probably no more than 125 pounds. I found several scratched up trees within a 100 yards of that track.
