Just a picture of some whitetails I modified the points on... Zwickeys for comparison.

Big !

Nice heads! Those look like they would leave a massive blood trail.
God is good, all the time!!!

Shinken

Seriously *nice* heads Pat B. and they're right-bevel to boot!

Excellent stuff right there!

Enjoy!

Shoot straight, Shinken

Those heads look very much like the old Pearson Deadhead. They should leave a heck of a bloodtrail.

Pat: have been shooting these for a little time now, why change the point from the tanto that is on them from the factory?

Thanks

I just prefer a point !    I suspect that a point will penetrate hide, meat and organs more effectively..  Probably give up a little durability on bone... But not much with these good heads..

These whitetails are 210 grains, I haven't measured width and length but I think they're 1.5" wide.

Terry Green

Thanks Pat......gonna call ya so u can walk me through how you nocked out the tanto. .....looks like a factory point Pat.     :notworthy:

I'll look forward to visiting !

In the meantime, do 98% of your filing on the nonbeveled side.. First one side then the other..

Before I start I take a sharpie and mark the beveled side right at the point for 1/4" or so.
I'm not sure it helps a lot but I think I can see what's happening a little better if I do mark it.

I work around the curve at first without filing past the center of the existing point..

Then I'll start my file strokes along the centerline of the ferrel or broadhead.. All my filing is from the back towards the point.. While doing this pay close attention to how the ridge or high centerline of the point is forming. Try to keep that ridge along the centerline and ending at the very point..

After you've done a few you can modify a tanto in 10 minutes easliy.. I like 'em pointed, call me crazy, lol !

Terry Green

Thanks Pat...and no, its not crazy to have a good point on a bhead.

I'll see what I can do.

Pat, I have to fully agree with Terry, it's not crazy to have a good point on them. Excellent!

I didn't even notice they were modified at first. You did a great job Pat! Oh, and I agree I want a point on my broadhead.

Pat B

I prefer a point on a broadhead also. Stringstretcher (Charlie) gave me a few Abowyer trade points and I would like to reshape the points like these were done. Thanks Pat for your explaination of how you reshaped these broadhead tips.

What broadhead is that if I may ask? I recognize the zwickeys, but the deadhead look alike I havent seen but is intriguing

They are Abowyer Whitetails..

The Abowyer line of broadheads is second to none, IMO.
