I love curly maple as a limb veneer.  Tell me what do you think natural or stained?  What riser wood to go with it?  I thought about grey stained with grey actionwood riser, cocobolo riser with stained maple, as well as a few other combos.  As always pictures are a very welcom addition.  Thanks...Mike

Mike,
It's hard to beat either Cocobola or Bacote. Either would contrast well with Curly Maple.

Easykeeper

Cocobolo with figured maple looks great.  Here's a 59'er with cocobolo, maple I-beam, stained maple limbs.

Mike:  Saw a Bob Lee at Tannehill with the Curly Mable dyed grey veneers, was very nice. He had it on a solid black phenolic riser with cross cutt grey actionwood overlays and stripes through the riser. Really looked good together.  RW

Anything goes with curly maple but coco is really fine. My sons Griffin is grey stained curly maple with coco riser and it looks awesome.

How about some Macassar ebony? or maybe some Zebra wood?

any kind of stain will bring out the grain which to me looks much better. I think a riser like kingwood or similar would look great with it.

I believe dye brings out the figure better than stain ............. JMHO

I like a darker limb bow so I say stained.

Gray Curly maple and Amarillo accents in the riser. Or gray curly maple and phenolic riser and a little ziricote with horn tips. It is hard to beat gray curly maple for a true hunting bow.

Lefties are the only ones who hold the bow in the right hand.

The take down recurve below has a riser that is cocobolo footed with natural (unstained) curly maple. The limbs are covered with a natural (unstained) curly maple veneer.

Some veneers need at least a hint of stain just so they don't look 'raw'....now much stain is up to you....or, you can go for the raw look.

Easykeeper,

That Ash tree looks familiar?  Obviously you had at one time owned this Griffin.  The 59er with coco riser is a stunning bow.
