I have been thinking and looking at bows for a while and just got the OK from my bride.  I currently am shooting a Horne combo hunter (longbow riser) with recurve limbs.  I like the bow, like Mark's bows, I like supporting him as he is local and like the idea of being able to visit the shop before and after the purchase.

With that said I am thinking buying another bow from Mark; the take down mountain bow.  I have shot this bow and really like it.  In the price I am planning on spending I would be able to get everything I want on this bow.

The other bow I am considering is a Widow.  I have not shot one but heard nothing but great things about them.  I like the way they look and the option to test them befor I order one.  The main draw back is if I compare apples to apples between Hornes and Black Widow is the price.  With the types of wood etc. the Widow is approx $300 more expensive.

This will be my first and probably last bow ordered to my specs so its a difficult decision.  Any input is appreciated to help make me feel better about my decision.

They're both good bows, but two entirely different designs.  Really recommend you find a way to shoot a Widow before deciding.  Regardless, I'd be willing to make a small bet that this won't be your last custom bow order.   :bigsmyl:

X2 on " The last bow I will Order". I started witha widow, then Big JIm's,then Treadway, Then Black Creek, Then another Treadway, then Protege, and now Zipper. But thats the Last one I will ever order.

I would call the people at Black Widow and see if they have a bow in there shop that will be close to the specs you want. You send them the money for it and they'll send you the bow. After you try it out for 10 days you simply send it back to them and get a full refund.

I started with 58# Dick Boss, then went to a 54# Chek-Mate, then 52# Thunder Stick, and just ordered a 48# Hill Country. Maybe my last bow????

How far are U from Jacksonville, TX ?   Drive down there and shoot some Bob Lee's.  Thats exactly what I am going to do, soon.  Gonna get one too.

Im about 90 min from Bob Lee's shop.  I was able to stop by there about 6 months ago. Great place.  I have considered one of his bows, but I guess just not in the top two.

Those are both good bows but for another choice that is somewhat local (Austin area) Bob Sarrels (Sarrels Archery) makes some fine bows. You could take a day, drive to his shop, and shoot just about every model he makes and decide if it is the right one for you. His Blueridge takedown longbow is my go-to bow and IMO is one of the best bows made! His prices are pretty good too.

I know somebody ( who won the Howard Hill Tournament) once sent a Bob Lee back, thought the ## was mis-marked. It was so smooth it didn't seem like what it really was. I noticed the same thing on the last one i shot. I'm sold.

I have a Timberhawk Strike XL right now. You won't be seeing it in the classifides.  So many good bows today to choose from.

Don't know about the Hornes, sure they are fine bows. Black Widows are great bows customer service second to none. They stand behind their products, some boyers don't. Check into the try before you buy.

Yep, test drive a Black Widow and see how you like it.  Great shooting bows and super nice guys to deal with.

That being said, I LOVE my Great Northern Critter Gitter.  Lol!
