Rik

I've been waiting for this one to get released.

There's nothing more fun than going to exotic places and hunting wild game you've never seen before. Some parts of the trailer reminded me of my Australian hunts. Plus, it is great to watch guys who know how to shoot, and how to have fun!

I am really looking forward to this.

Ryan Sanpei

Many thanks once again to everyone!

WOW! Thank you Curt for the unexpected and much appreciated review.  It means a lot coming from you!      :notworthy:

Randy,  shipped yesterday.      :)

Hawaii and Australia have very similar animals to hunt!

Ryan, Ryan and Ryan, that would make for a cool trad video     :D

I really hope this DVD lives up to the Gang's expectations.  Please keep in mind that we're only amateurs with video production.  You could call it "DIY Video".

Aloha!

Terry Green

Ryan sent me the DVD a while back....and I agree with Curt....its a great DVD.  Ryan and company really captured the spirit, and the lure of Hawaii is really COOL!!!

Great footage of the terrain as well as the hunt....don't miss it!!!

Ryan sent me a dvd before they were done with the final edit and I got to watch it a couple of times. It was killing me not to get on Trad Gang and tease you guys then. Don't be mis-lead by Ryan and Ryan's humility. The description on the back cover (Ryan's got the text quoted on the first post on this thread)WAY understates their experience, knowledge and abilities--both with the bow and the camera.  Kohatsu did an EXCELLENT job editing the video and the native Hawaiian music makes a great soundtrack. You guys are going to love their work, can't wait for the next one.

Ryan Sanpei

Thank you Terry and South!

Like South mentioned, Kohatsu is the mastermind behind this project.  He deserves all the credit.  I'm just fortunate that he allows me to tag along with him.

The Hawaiian music featured on a few segments is from a CD that my high school friends put together. Another great bunch of guys and gals.  We thought that it was a cool addition to a hawaii hunting video.

Watching it again right now!

When cade and I watched it for the first time the other night we were both riveted to the tv.  I'm tellin' ya....when you watch this dvd you will be looking into hunting this "hunting paradise"!

Pretty cool to see Ryan K. hunting both right and left handed in the dvd.

And you wanna talk about 2 guys that have some great shooting form...wow!

I don't know if I've ever seen bluer skies and sea's in my life....

Ryan, leaving for Maui on Tuesday, but promised the wife I would leave the bow at home.  It is KILLING me!  Got one I could borrow when I get over there?  One can only take so much of lying around in the warm sun on the beach!

Ryan Sanpei

Curt,
Very observant!  Yeah Kohatsu's switch has been a pretty cool journey in itself! Thanks again for all your kind words.  Very much appreciated bro!

Hey South,
Maui is the land of the HUGE goats!!!!...and deer...and pigs.......
BTW we'll be on Lanai for 10 days.  Just sneak away from the beach, jump on the ferry and I'll have a bow waiting for you!!!  If not I'll be sure to send you daily updates....
      :goldtooth:

how long is the video?
really liked the trailer.

Thank you much folks on the kind words!  :)

This community is simply amazing!  And all your support in promoting our loved activity is very appreciated and needed today.

I have not been a traditional shooter/bowhunter very long by comparison, but aside from the challenge and fun in it, I'm finding that the traditional community is very positive and encouraging.

Bowhunting has always been the passion.  However, capturing the action is just as much if not even more exciting.  We're just a small two-man crew and I wish we could show you all the missed opportunities.  I had no idea how tough it would be to get a DVD out but now that it's done, I can't think of anything else anymore.  Trying to concentrate on the day job but constantly thinking of the next story to tell is literally a disease I'm struggling with now. A disease that only the next hunt can temporarily cure.

As stated on the video, Sanpei and I will be heading over to the island of Lanai tomorrow to bowhunt Axis Deer.  Axis Deer might have a bit of a negative connotation with high fences and game ranches.  However, Lanai's herd is 100% wild.  No high fences and all spot and stalk public hunt.  Most local bowhunters here would argue that the Axis is the toughest animal to take with bow here and maybe impossible to film spot and stalk.

We'll be there for 10 days with 8 days to hunt.  We may never get a deer, but no matter; it's the effort that we're there for.

Thanks again for all the support and hope your 2012 year brings great success!

Much Aloha, - Ryan Kohatsu

Ryan K., That was very well said my friend...

I've been at this for a long time and I've never really been excited to try to get to your part of the world to bowhunt, but I am now!   :campfire:

And by the way....welcome to the "right" side of the bow, we're proud to have ya!!   :clapper:

Rik

I've hunted more than a bit. Had way more than my share of success and bloody arrows.

But I will say that free-ranging Axis Deer (or as I know them from hunting in Australia, Chital) are by far the most difficult animal I have hunted. By far!

I've stalked and killed pronghorn antelope with a longbow, but I have failed miserably to do the same with Chital. They seem to "see" everything, especially the last one inch of draw.

I wish you two the best of luck, and I am hoping the camera is rolling when arrows strike home!

Thanks Curt!  Yes, I now do feel like I am on the "right" side of the bow.  It's about time!  It was so hard to switch over, but it is amazing what the human body can learn in a short amount of time.  Be sure to let us know when you make the journey out!

Rik: I'm glad others have experienced or can appreciate the difficulty of the Axis on their own terms.  They are truly a wily animal and all the game ranches do not do this amazing species justice.  That said, I hope luck is on our side next week ... because we both know skill alone may not be enough for this one.
Aloha, -Ryan K.

I'll hold down the fort while you're away having fun.....no I'm NOT ALL J--okay, maybe just a little! Go get 'em

I'm watching Kevin's copy now  :D  Ryan, you look like you've "matured" since Compton's. Did I detect a little gray in the stubble? On suggestion, get a little more light on your faces. Really like the captions while your shooting at the goats while behind the tree!
