bows you never see for sale

LimBender, if you ask bowyers about weight most will tell you that they generally are making bows lighter in draw than they once did.  I have done a number of bowyer interviews for TBM and basically every bowyer said the same thing.  Just yesterday I had a chat with Steve Turay of Northern Mist and he was saying that he has built bows now for 23 years...many were in the 60-65# range back then but now he finds the most common weight ordered is mid-40s to low 50s.  Most bowyers will agree I think.  We have learned what the old time archers and hunters knew--you don't need all that much weight.  When guys started shooting the compound device they could draw heavier and still only hold 50% of that weight (in the early days of the compound let-off ran 35-50%).  When they moved to trad gear they thought they still needed/wanted that weight.

I don't talk with many bowyers, unfortunately, but it sure seems like the classifieds have more heavy used bows than lighter ones, and the light ones don't last very long.  I think it shows we're getting older (if not smarter!)

I have never seen a Pronghorn "50's Model" recurve for sale. Not many Pronghorn recurves,(Ferret) for sale either.

If you have a 50's recurve Herb made, I'll buy it. RH please.

Very few RER XR's in mid 40lbs as well as 56" Treadway Longbows..

I do agree with the above the mid to high 40lb bows are so popular they hardly come up.  With the performance of new strings, they are very efficient

Never seen any bows from Wilderness Bows by Neil Russell for sale. Always thought the"Traveller" 3pc longbow was cool.

Jim Reynolds (Thunderstick bows) "arrow inlay" bows. He only makes them for donation to trad archery fund raiser auctions. I saw one for sale once, the seller changed his mind when I offered to buy it.

I cant remember the guys name but he was in the original Trad Bowyers of America by Dan Bertalaan.  A former Marine, he built SCORPION Longbows.  I always thought I would like to shoot and own one of his bows....but have never seen one for sale.

I would also like to find my old Noble Longbow with "Shorthair" on the Built For line I sold in moment of weakeness around 1996-1999....LOL
