Doing some hunt planning and thought I heard that non-residents need a guide to hunt big game in Wyoming -- can anyone confirm or elaborate on this?

You only need a guide if you plan to hunt in a designated wilderness area.
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

If you were hoping to hunt wilderness areas unguided another alternative is to look at hunting areas that are designated "roadless areas".  There are several such large areas across the state and they can be nearly as remote as wilderness but do not require the service of a guide to access.

I'm not necessarily stuck on a wilderness area...just want to make sure I have enough opportunity in non wilderness areas

We have millions of acres of public, non wilderness ground for you to tromp around, and way more critters than people.
