Okay im looking for a takedown recurve in the mid to low 40s draw weight range that will still pack a punch out to 25 yards, i have a 28 inch draw length, the only thing is it cant cost more than about 780. Thanks in advance  :)

My friend with all the options and fantastic Bowyers today(check out our sponsors list)it would probably be easier for us to pick you out a women! Its all what style you like.

That budget covers a pile of great bows. Try to shoot the bow before you lay down that hard earned loot. Several bowyers offer a trial...........Fedora and Schafer come to mind, there may be others.

BOWMARKS

Best thing for you is to go to a archery shoot and try as many as you can get your hands on. There are so many great bows out there .

Good luck picking!!

anybody know of any archery stores in northern california that carries trad bows?

Bjorn

You could go to a San Francisco archers shoot in Pacifica and get to shoot some bows there. You are not likely to find shops with trad equipment or people who know about trad equipment in the Bay area. There is a shop in Pacifice-never been to the shop and don't know the name-that may have trad stuff.

bayhunter

what brands would you guys suggests that met my requirements?

Friend

The ones you can get your hands on try before you buy get my vote.

Someones favorite may be anothers worst nightmare. Traditional bow compatablility may often be far more indivualistic than one could percieve. Twenty plus brands could fit the bill however none of those may be a true and comfortable fit for you personally.

All the best in your search!

I would recommend the bear takedown bow. It is a great bow.

Rick Ellis at Striker bows probably has a used one in that price and weight range. I just traded in a three piece recurve in that weight for a new one I ordered from him.

He takes his bows back in on trade and refinishes them so it's like a brand new bow. He's a sponsor here.

With that being said you need to take the first advice given here and shoot as many as you can get your hands on. Bows are not one size fits all.

Wow....a cadet member with $750 for a bow.

I'd take my time...and see if I could find a model I liked and shot well....and order a new one.

Have fun young man.    :campfire:

A Dryad Epic. 8 weeks wait, and it will leave you with about $100 ekstra for arrows. Alternatively a used Black Widow, it has a good resell value.

I was against them originally but others have changed my mind, an ILF.  What's good about them is you can change everything around and try it in different versions and find out what really works for ya.  Once ya "finally", and it should take awhile, figure out what works for you, THEN get ahold of a bowyer and spend the big bucks on bow made just for you, how you want it.  In the long run I think it'll save ya money, and ya don't need to end up with 1/2 dozen bows that aren't quite right.  Just 2, the ILF which is set up just how ya like, and a new custom, made just how ya like it.  Good luck and enjoy.

I would keep my eye peeled, If I were you, for a used bow on the classifieds here--some great bargains. Morrison, Black Widow, etc etc etc.
