Nute Shoot!

Had a chance to hunt nutria during the day a while back which is rare for me.  Most of my nutria hunting is done on a golf course at night (for some reason the owners don't think it would be good for business if I hunt them there during the day    )

Anyway, I was hunting along a slough and spotted one on the bank eating grass.  Everything from that point on was as much fun as any big game hunt as the stalk was on.

I slipped in to about 12 yards through some brush and tall grass, waited for a broadside shot and zinged one of our prototype two blade heads through his chest and into the dirt.

I was shooting a 45# Bear Super Kodiak, a bow that I'm hoping to deer hunt with this fall.  I've never hunted with a bow that light, but I sure do like shooting this one.

Nice hunting. BTW, I know for a fact quite a few hunters in the state of Louisiana eat nutria.

that is what i was thinkin muskrat but i would also like to know and when are you gonna have your 2 balde heads out on the market i would like to try them this fall on some ks deer

Nutria looks like a giant rat.  They're vegitarian, eating roots and grasses.  White/pinkish meat, kinda resembles pork.
Haed as heck to skin.  Pelts, down here, aren't worth much.  We used to shoot 'rm for fun after hunting season went out.  Had an over population of 'em on the Mobile Delta, so they were glad for us to kill as many as possible.
I guess if you knew how to cook it, the meat would be good.  I just couldn't get past the Giant Rat look.  Ain't much on eating rodents.  But if times get much rougher, I'll be able to tell you how they taste!

A nutria is a big ol' water rat.  They do look a lot like a muskrat.  They are tough on golf courses because they build dens near the ponds that collapse under the mowers.

The two-blade is coming along.  I believe I've got the steels for the ferrule and the blades that I like and the heat and cryo tempering where I want it.  Now it's just a matter of waiting for the production runs to come in.  That will probably be longer than I want, but I think we'll have them available for this season.

apparently they were brought here from over seas. they are a destructive rodent and there is an open season on them if im not mistaken. i would have to check the nc regs to be sure. there are plenty of nutria here in eastern nc. rv

Nice shootin'! I bought some Nutria strips for string silencers, and some for a rest on the auction site awhile back. They worked well.

Nutria cacciatore is very good. There is a recipe posted under ine of vanilla gorillas threads from earlier this year. Next one I shoot is getting BBQ'd on the grill.
