Our season here has been open for a week now. But with school, work, and Cade's baseball schedule, we just haven't been able to get out.

That is until this afternoon...

Cade's baseball game was rained out, my nephew Alec was over for dinner and Cade's game...so with the game cancelled, that left us with some free time.

I suggested a frog hunt and they both lit right up!

Alec hardly ever gets to shoot a bow, but he sure was game.

Of course as soon as we left for the ponds....the rain started to get harder...never fails!

But heck, it was hot, so the rain actually felt pretty good!

I had my bow, but was really just alone to photograph, spot frogs,etc....
 Getting started...
•

Cade's new favorite hat...
•

Almost immediately we could tell it was going to be pretty slow.....half way around the pound we hadn't seen a single frog!
•

After lapping the first pond, we still hadn't seen a frog...and this was the "honey hole"...

We moved on to the second nearby pond and saw a nice one about five feet out in the weeds. Cade drew and shot...just missing high. One last arrow!

The frog went under but came right back up about ten feet out.  I figured we'd go looking for others and come back for this guy for Alec to try if we couldn't find another.

We searched two other ponds and didn't see a single frog....I couldn't believe it!  Must have been the rain or something, because just days earlier we'd scouted a bit and saw plenty of frogs here....strange...

We made our way back to the spot where Cade had missed and the same frog he'd missed was still there....now Alec was up to bat!

But his first shot in two years flew about 6 inches high.

With that Cade asked if he could shoot.  I really thought it was too far out for him, and he'd just lose another arrow...but as he said...

"I won't lose my arrow if I hit it"

So with that, I encouraged him to really concentrate and make it count...
•

The result...
•

Cade and his cousin Alec...
•

As you can see, he made an absolutely perfect shot!

We continued our search, but just couldn't find another frog to shoot at for Alec...
•

He did manage to "kill" a can...
•

Despite the rain, and lack of opportunities, we all still had a great time...
•

On the way home Alec said twice how much fun he had even though we'd hardly seen anything...he's already talking about "next time"....

Great shooting Cade!  I like that... "I won't lose my arrow if I hit it."  Keep that confidence!

Best of luck next time Alec, there will be better days with more shot opportunities.
