Very brave. Obviously, you made the right choice. Well done Sir.

Wow!  Now that's a story to tell the grandkids!  Very cool headed reaction to a bad situation.

Very cool headed as you say, Whip.

I would hope I would take the same course, but you wonder sometimes how you would react in such high stress situations...

As I get older, I often err toward caution and hesitancy can kill...

So very glad you acted promptly and it worked out.

that right there is what hunting what can hunt back, is all about!

What a rush!

I like and respect the way you handled this situation. Yes, you could have been hurt. But somebody coming to get you in the dark could have been hurt worse. I totally agree with your decision. Awesome story.

Hunt you want forget. Thanks for sharing, waiting for the rest.

Bear Spray? Good thought in retrospect.... I believe they do not allow pepper spray into Canada, but it would have been very helpful!

Gary Logsdon

Pepper spray, the small canisters designed for use on humans can't be taken across the border, however last time I checked you can use the big bear sprays, like Counter Assault while hunting.  Odd reg, but that's how it's been for a while in Ontario, as I remember.

But I'm sort of glad that you didn't have it on you Charlie, the story is a lot more exciting this way.  Besides, I hear that some bears love a little pepper on their hunter before they chow down!! :^)

Charlie, awesome story. Can't wait to see the "other hunt"   :)   Just for future reference, bear spray is allowed in Canada. It just has to say "Bear Spray" on the labeling. I had some with me on my trip and once thought I would need it because a boar charged my tree and thought about climbing up. It was better piece of mind than a pistol 'cause with a heartrate in the 200s a pistol is no good in my hands...Plus they no like pistols in the north. Congrats in advance on your bear    :campfire:

I'm adding my story about the bear I shot over on Larry's thread. I will start it now with pics, but won't have video until later.

Here is a picture of the bear I was able to take. She made me wait for 25 minutes or so before presenting a solid broadside shot opportunity. Larry has the whole thing on video and I will put the entire story up on his thread.

Kenny,

I never even saw it or I would have gotten some. The story might not have been as eventful though.....Definitely a lot safer.

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. TGMM ♥

Dang, I need to go bear hunting one of these days.

Congrats on your bear.

Wow, certainly one to tell the grandkids.
Imagining myself in that situation makes my hair stand on end!

Congrats on the bear, and nerves of steel!
Hunting was hazardous, but at least it guaranteed the freedom of the individual.

There is no doubt that the onset of farming saw the end of leasure for the majority of people, who were destined to toil in the fields.
