I love my Samick Deermaster T/D recurve.  Does anyone have any experience with their longbows, particularly the CA 60?

As some of you may have seen, I'm considering selling/trading my '97 Martin Hunter in order to fund purchase of my first longbow.  Due to the age of the hunter, I'm limited to the $200-ish range, according to the feedback I'm getting here (which, of course, is expert feedback).  The Samick bows are in that price range brand new.  After shooting the recurve, I'm more than happy with its quality and performance so I'm thinking of trying a Samick longbow, unless I can find a nice second-hand longbow in that same price range.  Before I post the Hunter in the classifieds, I figured I'd bug the Gang a bit more.    :D

As always, thanks in advance for any and all input.

I had a Samick Verna. i LOVED the bow for the short time i had it, i was somee kinda deaddly wiht it if i do say so myself. man i liked that bow. But at only 3-5months of age it was totaled due to de-lamination. VERY disapointed and as i am not the original owner, im just COL on this one. Ive owned a Sage and deermaster i loved it too but it too is out of comission (limbs flew apart) i killed my first trad deer with it.

So i have very skeptical views on samick. I think i may just stick with American made from now own. But hopefully you will have better luck with them. Hope this dont scare you haha,

Thanks for the input, Dalton.  I appreciate any and all info, be it good news or bad.  I just have a limited budget so my options are limited in turn.  The good thing about getting a new one is that I'll have a warranty should something go wrong.  I've only had the recurve for a couple months but so far, so good.  It's a nail-driver when I do my part.     :archer2:

Thanks again.  Anxiously waiting for others to chime in.   :)

Had limited experience with Samick longbows. The Verna delamed and have heard horror stories from others. I would chec around there are some nice bows out there.

I've been watching the classifieds as often as possible.  If anyone can recommend a starter longbow in the $200-250 range, I'd certainly appreciate it.  I'll likely just clean up the Martin and put it in the classified and see what happens.

Thanks again Gang.

I have owned several Samick bows, and never had a problem with any of them.  A Red Stag TD, Deer Master TD, and a beautiful and hard shootin' Nitehawk TD.  All good quality and great shooters.  I wouldn't be afraid to buy a newer model Samick longbow at all, but I have no experience with them. A new one would have a warranty.  I did recently pick up a Bear Montana in a trade for my first longbow.  I like it alot, and they can be found used in really good shape for a little over $200.

Just got the Maddog Mid Size.  Really nicely made bow and a good shooter.  Just got it on Saturday and I'm impressed so far to say the least.

I was just thinking, "Check out Maddog longbows", then I saw the other posts.  I agree!

Mike makes great bows and at a very affordable price.

Maddog... you mean where I recently ordered the Pup longbow?     :knothead:

I totally skipped right over the midsized longbow on his site.  The price is right and 60" should be just fine for starters.  I was shooting for a 50# bow but I'm thinking 45 will be fine as well, even though I only draw to 27".

Thanks again guys.

I have a Samick Lightning Recurve, with a 16" riser, and am very pleased with it. Of course, it can't compare to my 1pc Toelke or Centaur, but it gets the job done!
It's all hanging together also, despite my occasional ruff treatment   :)
A friend of mine had one as well, but it developed a crack in the upper limb, but no problem with Samick with the warranty!

I like to buy and sell American when possible, but it's hard to beat some of the Samick bows for price. I have sold a number of the Red Stag recurves. They are fast and accurate beyond what you would expect from a $200.00 bow. Some of the guys at the shop here were checking speed on several bows last week. The Red Stags compared very favorabley with more expensive bows with a speed of about 180-185 fps at 28" draw and 9gr/# arrow weight.

One customer had a limb to delaminate a few weeks ago. Tradtech ask no questions, replacing the limbs in just two days. That's good service.

If you have a little time and a little skill check out 7 Lakes Longbow blanks. Mike gets them all glued up, tillered, grip roughed in, and string nocks started. You do the rest. I just finished one and couldn't be happier with it. Costs between 225-275 depending on what the bow is made of.

Check the bow forum classifieds there are always longbows for sale in that price range! I had a Samick Red Stag takedown it was a great bow but I have never checked out a longbow! I did see a Ragim longbow in a shop on Monday that looked okay and it was under $200! for me now it is USA made all the way!
