well i am setting down the flintlock in favor of the longbow for turkeys this year as i have good friends who i know would rather hunt them with bow and i would like to commit to trying bow only this spring. i KNOW how hard it will be as i am not using a blind and i'm hunting a mountain that will be difficult at best! there are MANY bords there and i know the area well just need a little bit of luck! at different times i will be hunting with 3Feathers, Adirondackman, Bowspirit and hopefully Ron W and Kat. what i do know is any day spent on that mountain with friends and bow in hand is a GREAT time! will post many pic's when season gets here.

Good luck! It's definitely a challenge but worth it. Was out this morning and never heard a thing but it was good to be out. First time in 3 years.

Never went turkey hunting but once and that was with a shotgun. Got lucky and killed a nice tom with a wide 10 in. beard no calling or even a blind , I just set down behind a brushy cow paster  fence where I had been seeing turkeys and one came out (just dumb luck ) . I would love to try it with my bow but I dont know a darn thing about turkey hunting , I just know we have ALOT of birds on our land .Good luck on your hunt

Good luck, Once you hunt them with a bow its very hard to go back to the shotgun.

You mean there is another way besides a bow?

We finally had a perfect turkey hunting weather wise.  On the property with me was one guy with a shotgun.  With my Robertson longbow, I at least got to do some shooting, I shot numerous gopher mounds about the size of a turkey's vitals. the turkeys that have been there all winter must have shifted there pattern not a sign of them anywhere. After the rain I will check out another area nearby, they have to be somewhere.  If not, with a bow I can at least shoot some more gopher mounds.

God Luck Ken!  The birds are there, you just have to figure out how to get a shot.

Good Luck

I'm going to try for one with my stick bow next month. However, I'm bringing my wheelie if I get frustrated, and my shotgun if I get really desperate. Don't think less of me, I'm still new!   :p

I will be out as well. My father owns a farm and I have been visiting it most of my life. Hunted it for the second time last year. I have seen burds there in the past. Last year while whitetail hunting, I even called three in.

So like you, I need some sucess. Sucess to you!

I may even ride my bike to the farm. I wonder if RonW will ride his? ((:

I've been hunting turkey since the beginning of April without a blind. Its very hard but the challenge is just awesome. The reward will be great. Might not happen this year but I've had a blast hunting!

Turkey season closed here yesterday. Over the course of the season I had three legitimate chances at legal birds. Saw a lot of hens, some as close as 8 yards (from a ground blind and a pop-up.)
Learned several things, first, I need a bigger blind. Three times I called legal toms into range but couldn't shoot because of the dimensions of the pop-up.
Second, clean out the inside of the blind of sticks, pine needles, extra gear, etc. Third, hunt as late into the morning as legal, some toms will be looking for hens after 11 am or so.These Osceola toms come in quiet most of the time.
Good luck. I'm already planning my spring 2012 attack!
