Well, the fun had to end! The THH II was a blast! I'll try to keep everthing in order as they happened! There is nothing like gettin' a group fo bowhunters togeather!! We made new friends, had a great camp, excellent food and drink, good music and good hunting. It all stared on 17th March (a few days early) when AL and ED arrived at my place in Centeral Texas. All the way from N.J.!!!! After a few days rest, and some "home cookin" by my wife, we headed to the Granger Wildlife Management Area to Hog hunt. Now the pigs here, are like race horses....they never stop running. You better be ready and quick on the "string"!!! Al and Ed are both longbow shooters as I am. It was good see 3 longbow hunter togeather! It was about a one mile walk from the parking area along the San Gabriel River to our hunting spot. Below are some pictures of the camp and area we hunted!

An area the Hogs had been hitting hard!

Well, hot it was temp's were in the mid 80's and some times lower 90's. I backpacked about 25lbs corn and a bag of "Hog Wild" in almost every day! The Hog's were hitting the bait, about every other day. Too bad it was night! No night hunting is allow on the WMA. One afternoon on the way out of the hunting area, 4 hogs came out about 60 in front of us, 2 large, I would guess 200lbs + and 2 little ones 40-50lbs or so. They were running at full speed, we watched as they ran across a field a good 1/2 mile wide and never slowed down!!

My bow, waiting for hogs!!

We hunted hard for 5 days, went thur 100lbs corn, 4 bags of Hog Wild! The hogs we fed in those 5 days must have gain 40lbs each! Well, it came down to the last day of the hunt for Al and Ed, they had to head back to NJ. So the last day we had our "annual end of the hunt cookout" 15-20 local bowhunters (as usual) showedup with everything from Tuna to bear. With venison the main course!

Food!!

More food!

Well, a couple more photo of the cookout, and then back to base camp with TG"er's Wudstik, skippy1 and his wife, Charlie) and Pat (missed place his handle). Plus Harry, Steve and Ron.

More young ones!! The kids seem to enjoy the cookout as much as we adults!

Bow and shooters, Al and Ed in back.

Now we head back to base camp with 3 more days of hard hunting. Wudstik was a trip, glad he showed up for the hunt!

Wudstik is on the left!! Harry on the right.

Skippy1 at the grill!! Food was just as good in base camp as at hope!!

Picture of the last group, Back row L to R, Wudstik, Harry, Steve....Front row L to R, Skippy1, me(longarrow), Ron...missing from the photo is Pat.
Thanks and we will do one post showing the end of the hunt, kills, and night life!!

The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

Sorry, I got pulled away from the computer and couldn't get back last night! More camp pictures.

Steve and Ron's home for the weekend. Both learned a hard lesson...it's not wise to just throw a sleeping bag on the ground in this part of the country (without a pad) of sort. Sore backs, ant bites hurt!!

Steve, Ron and Skippy1 take a break.
Well, I will say the hogs won agin this year...we did hunt harder and longer than last year. We got to see several hogs, but no shots! I'm keeping the bait going, hope the hogs will start hitting it during legal shooting hours. WE DID GET SOME KILLS...last day we decided to switch to bowfishing...

Skippy1 got the first kill with a nice size gar!

I followed with a carp!
To closeout the topic are a couple of pictures of the "Night Life" around the Camp, good food, good music and good friends!

This what Trad Ganger's are about, dropping someone you have never met before a PM, email, invite and making friends that last forever!! Thanks to the Trad Gang for makin' this possible!!! We look forward to "Texas Hog Holler III" in 2012! WOW!

Thanks for every thing Rickey.  Sorry I missed the NJ boys.  Next time earlier starts, or hiking in prior to daylight might be in order.  You guys camping on the ground in tents are crazy.  Hammocks are the only way to go.  Two trees and everything is always level, sleeping on air.

Looks like fun

Camp time is as good as hunting time the older you get,

Looks like a great time with good friends.
It's always good to have a guitar in camp, too.

Granger gets a lot of hog hunting pressure from bowhunters. The hogs are there, but they're smart.

Hunting at Granger is definitely Ph.D. level hog hunting.  Hunt early and late.  Hogs have to drink so hunt trails leading to water.  Find those littel puddles back in the thicks.  Hard to tell which trails are fresh with all the dry we've had.  Really enjoyed the time with you folks; Steve, Ron, Rickey, Harry, Skippy1 and Charlie.  Have to put this on the calendar and come ready to roll next time.  Sorry you had to cut out early Pat.  Enjoyed our walk/hunt up towards Primitive camp.  Bunch of good ground we covered.
