A friend, who will remain anonymous, wants to donate a new bow to a veteran. He wants it to go to a man who would love to get into archery/bowhunting but right now just can't afford a bow. Is there a way to find such a man and to verify he is the real deal without being scammed?

Snag on the web I would say no,I would suggest he put the bow up for giveaway to someone he knows that can put it in the hands of a vet that needs it.

I'm a vet and am currently looking for a bow for a beginner.  PM on the way.

Check with your local veterans service officer, you may very well find someone close to home.

I have done it twice Sang and never doubted the individuals credentials. I figured if they were dishonest, they would have to live with it.

I don't think the VA will give out info about veterans.  If you tell them what you want to do, they may pass on your info to a veteran that is interested and then they could contact you.  All veterans should have a DD214 given to them after discharge.  If they save a copy at their local courthouse/county recorders office, it then becomes public record.  Or you could try to contact your local VFW hall to see if there's anyone interested there.
