I had to turn my harvest card in at Fort Stewart today and get a new permit so after Church time I headed over there. I had planned on a two day hunt but My Wife reminded me of a meeting I have at work tomorrow so I had to settle for a couple of hours.

I got my permit and decided to go check one of my honey holes. It was midday and I was happy to be in the woods. The Sun was bright and it was around 45 degrees with very little wind.I was sporting my new to me Big Five...Thanks again Thomas and was planning on shooting lots of times at leaves ,stumps and any critter legal.

Right of the bat I cut off the road headed to a group of water oaks and came across a heck of a trail coming from a cane thicket heading across a fairly thick pine ridge. Lots of pig sign and Big boar sign as well. ...

Went on down and found another tree a big pig a cut.Kinda like a rub line for deer...

I shot a lot of shots and was getting a good feel of the Big Five and felt confident I could gaff a pig if I could get in range. Then there was a couple of tree rat misses. One I hit the gap between the squirrel and the tree trunk and knocked the squirrel off the side of the tree and he fell to the ground. His feet were moving before he hit the ground and he ran in a hole with a quickness.Kinda like a book I read once when I was a kid about Daniel Boone "Barking" squirrels with his flintlock. My shot was not on purpose like his and my squirrel got away.

I went on through and found a whiteoak that had fed in October. My Michigan Buddy CJ and I came by here a few weeks ago. A buck rub up top and a pig rub on the bottom. Who sez critters don`t share...

I looped around in the wind and came up on a ridge covered in corn flakes..lol and of all the easy to sneak up on pig places I had went through this is where some pork was.A couple of sows with some shooter pigs prolly 6-8 and a good size boar hog. All running around picking up acorns . I lined up a beautiful patch of palmettos and started closing ground. Even with walking in cornflakes I was about to get close enough then the wind changes and that was that. The porkers were about ten yards behind the palmetto patch in the pic....

I looped into an open bottom that had lots of sign but did`nt see any pork and sat on a log and rested. Had a bit of "Church" and started out. Knocked another squirrel silly that ran in a hole after gettin judo`ed. I`ve decided they are not the head for squirrels. I did`nt have any of my normal squirrel killing heads. Here is a pic of the purty bottom...

And a rub I went by on the way out..

A very good midday adventure. Got to bond with my new bow a bit and almost got some meat. The Big Five shoots good but I am gonna get some heavier shafts . I was shooting some carbons I used with my Mohawk this year but the Hill is gonna like a bit more weight I think.RC

A good training run for the Big5. It'll know what to expect by your next outing.

Thanks for taking us along RC.

I'd love to have some 58 degree tempts right now...lol

God bless,Mudd

PS> I hit something other than my target at close range this evening but I don't think anyone will notice a hole in a table covering that was sticking out a tad...lol

An old hand me down recurve sparked the fire, Trad Gang fanned the flames.  There is no stopping now.  Burn baby burn!

Thanks for the hunt RC.

It is nice to see the woods and to see your Big Five leaning against that tree.

The day I can knock a squirrel silly will be cause for celebration!
