quick question I know that the up and down is do to the knocking point to high or to low  but what makes my arrows fish tail from side to side?  and how to correct it?   thanks  Rob

Bjorn

Usually brace height sometimes too stiff an arrow-overspined.

LookMomNoSights

wrong spine!
questionable release!

hydrasport205

shooting a full lenght 3555 gold tip with 145 grain field point. out of a 45# longbow 60"

LookMomNoSights

whats your draw length tho?

And what kinda rest are you using.

draw length about 29 inches maybe 30  rest is velcro

hydrasport205

should the brace height be moved up or down? its on 7 1/4" now its a southern draw longbow

lpcjon2

You can adjust the strike plate to compensate for the spine difference, add a tooth pick behind the strike plate(brings it out a little) and see what happens.Feel free to correct me I dont have to do this on my bows.

You should know what the draw is 29 or 30 for sure.
And you should take a tip-less arrow and nock it on the bow place a clothespin on the front of the arrow at touching the riser and slowly draw back.to your anchor this will aid in measuring your draw length.Measure from the nock to the clothes pin (part facing the rear of the arrow.

And on my longbow I prefer to use a thin piece of leather for the rest and plate. The brace should be moved up or down till you find the sweet spot that gives little to no hand shock and makes the bow quiet. If it is loud when you release try going up a little(1/4 increments) till it sounds and feels good.

Now you can go to Stu's calculator and add the bow and your set up info and figure out what you need arrow wise.2-3" makes a difference in length

There is some good info here:   www.Bowmaker.net

I spent a lot of time in the "tuning" section there.  Learned lots!

Suggestion: Maybe you should do a search.  i am sure there is a metric ton of info about tuning arrows to bows

I'd say more than a metric ton. I nearly wrecked my shoulder. Between trying to bareshaft tune, and bad form.

Recently getting back into the swing of things, I found stu's calculator. It saved me alot of headache, and allowed me to work on building strength to achieve proper form. This time around my form is is good enough so I can confirm the spines I come up with on the calculator.

I should make it clear that ALL measuements fo bow weight, center cut, draw length etc... must be accurately figured out to get quality results.

Good luck.
