I just wanted to add that this year I picked up a Nikon Coolpix P100 . I was having fun taking pictures with my phone of the deer that I let walk or ones that were out of range, but the pics were terrible. My point and shoot wasn't much better and my Nikon SLR was just a bit too big. The P100 is perfect for this and it has a 26x optical zoom......in case anyone was interested
