I have owned and trained a dozen or so hunting dogs over the years and figured I have about one good dog life afield left in me. Looking back over the various breeds there is one that brought me more joy than all the others, so here we go again...

Graetche - smooth coat dachshund from Qua-Linea kennel - joined me in Iowa over the Thanksgiving holiday. I was visiting relatives in Ohio and drove half way towards Chapel Hill, NC to me Sian Kwa and make the pick up. This pup is from serious European hunting blood lines and is cousin to Ryan Rothhaar's dog Oskar. I called Ryan and he and Katia were on the road and from family visit to Iowa. We met at an I-74 exit and talked dogs.

Its been over 15 years since there was a puppy in my house and I'm busy "child proofing". Looking forward to some good years of hunting with this new team member.

I've got a large terrier currently (Kerry Blue) but I have a soft spot for Dachshunds.  Biggest hearted little dogs there are!

Handfulls to train, too.  They're too darned smart and willful!  Good luck and enjoy!

HAH!  I could see the wheels turning so hard at Compton, there was NO doubt in my mind we would be seeing these pictures.

What a lucky dog!  To spend her/his days afield joyously tracking for her/his hunting partner!   :)
Is it a male or female Shaun?  Beautiful pup either way!

Its a she and there should be a couple handfuls of good years for both of us. I'll fling the arrows and Graetche will follow the blood. Trying to retire and hunt full time or as close as am able to come. Lucky dog, lucky me.

ksbowman

Good looking pup! Keep us posted on her training and how it goes. I've been interested in a good tracking dog, but I've got plenty of dogs now.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

Congratulations on the new family member Shaun. And the retirement.

Good luck Shaun. Make sure to post a pic of the first deer that she finds.

Fine looking dog you got there.  Big enough to get the job done.  Small enough so you don't get pulled through the briars like a skier behind a boat in the middle of the night.  Give us a few more pictures.
