Made 2 wool silencers - same method and # of strands. Bottom one is coming out bit by bit but not the top. I'm susupicious the string is a bit short - it is too 'untwisted' (to get the right brace height) to hold the yarn. However, makes me wonder why the top one is fine.
any help???
thx in advance

Don't know why maybe more wax buildup on the top. Try resting and tying it in. Good luck!

Give the bottom loop a few twists and untwist the top loop a few to compensate the brace.

wouldn't the whole string 'respond' to twisting and untwisting? not just hte top and bottom?? Never thought of it, but how does the serving ifnluence twisting? may play with it in a bit.
thx

Yes - shoot 3 under. Bow is tillered only 1/8. I did think of that but have never had this problem on any other bow. Elaborate on what you are thinking - should the lower silencer be at a differnt spot relative to where the string touches the limb? if so, hihger, lower,???? obviously more violent vibration on the bottom - which direction woudl fix it??

A few un-twists on the bottom will lower your brace an 1/16-1/8 or so, compensate by twisting the upper half equally. The whole string doesnt twist evenly when twisted on one end only, after its served. Cabt hurt to try it, nothing is permanent.

Yes, change the location of the silencer...closer to the limb tip. The top one should be in about the same position.

The silencer in a position closer to the limb tip will travel less distance upon release. It also absorbs less vibration in this position, but if you have a fairly heavy arrow it should not create a noise problem.

It may also be necessary to change silencer material. I know wool works good, but the catwhisker silencers may be what you need. Even then, they will need replacing from time to time.

I don`t know why this affects some bows and not others, but I have seen this before.

I tried three under for a while some years back, and my Predator recurve would strip the bottom silencer in less than three dozen shots. Go back to split finger, and they would last about the life of the string.

I`m guessing you shoot a fairly stout bow. Above 55lbs.

I guess the problem is worse if the bow was not tillered for three under.

The bottom may not have enough twist.  If the person who made the string didn't put enough back twist in it when they made the bottom loop the string won't set together or twist as well.

I believe that adding twist to one end will even out over the whole string after a few shots or short period of time as the serving will also spin from the added pressure of the added twist from only one end.

Take some unwaxed dental floss and tie tightly around the string at each end of the silencef and twice spaced evenly in between.  This has worked like a charm for me on endless strings with low twists

Agree with Terry that twisting either end of the string affects the entire string once it has tension put back on it.
