That is just great, Makes me feel not so old at 78, I hope I have that many more years to bow hunt.
I have been blessed, beyond measure.

Day Dreamer

I hope by the grace of God I'll be hunt'n with trad gear at that age.

Great story, thanks for sharing. An old friend of mine once told me "You don't quit hunting because you get old, you get old because you quit hunting." This gentleman is a prime example.

A great picture and story.  Here's a link to it.   I like what they called his "love affair with bowhunting".

Some times the uneventful nights are just as good if not better than the eventful ones

Now that is cool!  Hope I am around at 89 to do it too!  Hey, I already have the same Winona Camo he is wearing!

Thanks for sharing such a wonderful snippet. I'd love to read a TBM story or interview featuring Claude.

Yep, what Ben says.

We can all learn something from people like Claude.
Hunting was hazardous, but at least it guaranteed the freedom of the individual.

There is no doubt that the onset of farming saw the end of leasure for the majority of people, who were destined to toil in the fields.

Igor

Love it and hope to be there some day.....only 30 years left to try and get it right!

I just read the article. I actually own one of the recurves built by Pocahantas Archery way back when. It's not in shootable condition now, but it's still a neat piece of local bowhunting history!

Keep the passion and the fire burning.  A great atticle, and a poster "boy" for all of us.

KentuckyTJ

Now that's good stuff. Hope I am able to hunt at that age.

I hope I am hunting at that age too.  Makes you want to take better care of yourself.  What an inspiration.

I sent an email to John McCoy (author of the article) asking him to wish Mr. Jones happy hunting and to let Claude know there are still a few of us around.

Here is a link to Mr. McCoy's email address.

Mr. McCoy

Please pass on my happy hunting wishes to Mr. Claude Jones. Your article "Bow hunting the hard way" has reached the internet community of traditional bowhunters known as Trad Gang.  http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=096318;p=1  This internet community of 25000+ is dedicated solely to traditional bow hunters who take great pride in "hunting the hard way." Mr. Jones may like to know, in a world of high tech hunting gadgets; there are still a few of us roaming the woods that share his passion for the beauty and simplicity of the traditional bow. The story of Mr. Jones hunting with traditional gear at the age of 89 has given great inspiration to me and many others. Here's to you Claude...go get'em brother!
