**DONOTDELETE**

I got a 3 pack of Trailmakers from Kustom King a few weeks ago. I have always liked the idea of 3 blades, but I have never been able to sharpen them properly....to my satisfaction, without tools that plug into the wall. I have seen other 3 blade heads that were shaving sharp, I just can't do it with a file or small stone, so I don't use them.

Until now. I have shot these for a few weeks.  I played around with the wieght (they are 125 grains. I had ONE 100 grain steel insert, and wouldn't you know it, thats what I landed on as the perfect wieght....a 100 grain insert. So I melted some solder into the hollow cavity of some 75 grain inserts I had, and I was in business.

Then I started shooting....a ton. They fly perfect on Axis 500 carbon arrows out of my Shrew Lil Favorite.

But this past Sunday, I decided I better make sure I can sharpen them before too much longer. Friday is opening day, and if I needed to change heads, I wanted a week to shoot them. To be honest, I wasn't that confident in my ability to get them scary sharp.

I was amazed....I took a 3 sided diamond rod (see the picture) and hit them 15 or 20 licks with coarse, 15 or 20 medium, and them polished them with about 50 strokes with the fine grit side. Absolutely hair popping sharp.

I have a pocket full of doe tags, and a falll turkey permit. I'm going to kill something with these this weekend. Stay tuned!

Just curious? Do they make any noise in flight?  My WW's, same type design, hiss when I shoot them.

Yes Roger, I too love these heads! Best of luck mate!

And I look forward to the 'hero' pics!

Roger,

Model of the diamond stick?

Did you flip the broadhead on each stroke or do the 20 then flip, do the 20 then flip, do the last 2 blades?

limbow

Any "whistling" associated with the vents because I am really interested in using those heads as well.

I don't have any experience shooting them so can't say if they whistle or not. But the game your hunting is going to hear your bow string thud before they hear a broadhead hiss.

Good eye Terry....I had to go double check, yep, JewelStik. I just stroke 2 edges at once, and rotate after each stroke.

No, there is no whistling.

Friend

Which JewelStik model would be most appropriate for sharpenning 3 blade BH's?

Friend....pick the best size of the 3 sided ones that would fit your need best. You don't have to have the longest one for sure since all you are doing is pulling the Bhead from back to front, and not sliding down like a stone.  Consider you pack as well....they are great for touch ups in the field.

Looking at Terry's link, I think I have the "Sportsman". It's plenty large enough.

I currently use the flipstik which render great results.

Thanks Terry.  I have seen you mention them many times before.  I will have to grab one.

:wavey:   Thank you too Roger.  I must have needed a fellow Yankee to make it sink in.  Good luck to you and make sure you come up to the club after the season ends.  I still have a young man chomping at the bit to hunt behind a beagle.

Hey Steve - We are chasing rabbits every Saturday and Sunday once gun deer season closes. I have been talking to Coffey about hitting his Dads place and my Uncles place in one day....we can stand around and chew the fat, listen to Daisy, and watch kids roll rabbits!!
