Not long Ben I have to get up early and go hunting....

The grizzly tipped arrow (same broadhead that took the first bear in the thread) was on it's way. The lumenock showed the hit as it passed through.Low and tight to the leg.The bear reacted with a grunt and ran a short way before stopping. A few seconds later I heard some rustling. It was the other bear running up to the bait.Hearing nothing else after a 5 minute wait I lowered the bow and took the climbing stand down. The smaller bear was still at the bait 15 yards away. The arrow was a few feet away from the bear. As I took a few steps towards the arrow the bear let me know that the bait was now his. Shined my light on the arrow to check the sign and walked out.

Even when you're confident of the shot it still is a long night with unrecovered game in the woods.

Back at first light with my hunting companions Don and Regina and outfitter Brian Forbes we took up the trail. No blood between the hit and 70 yards where we found.....

The recovery team...

Fortunately we were able to get the rhino right to the bear. It took a tilt bed and all the four of us had to get him loaded.
There is no scale at the lodge so no weight but the hide measures 7'3" from nose to base of tail(unstretched) and the skull measured 20 1/4" green.

My friends also tagged out as the week progressed  while I checked baits, called elk and glassed some very nice deer and bears.
Tagging out early has it's perks:)   :)    :)

What a pair of beasties Paul!  People say bear are tough to judge the size of.  When you see one like that you don't have to think twice!  What amazes me is the body on that second one.  20+ head and it still is dwarfed by the body.

Thanks guys! Glad you enjoyed the story and pic's. Been my privilege to hunt/shoot and enjoy some fine camps with many of you.

As for whats next I've got a pocket full of deer tags and a bunch of bows to build.
Going to put some big bear mojo in them for the guys that will be hunting bears with them next year. Hope they all get bigger bears than these

Also the wife has been complaining about the lack of elk meat in the freezer and there is always that elusive color phase bear.......

Good hunting,

Paul
