The bear is a few feet in front of Jay and Erin.
After doing a little clearing....

This land is cut over with about fifteen year old regrowth. Although the bear was less than a 1/4 mile from the road it took us three hours to retrieve it with a fourwheeler and winch.

The recovery team:

Thanks guys!!!!!

The bear weighed 292# Prime coat for this early in the fall. His front right elbow was broken. No marks on the hide so what happened to him is a mystery to me. The arrow passed through the top of both lungs.

In NH you have to call the game warden when you check in a bear and if requested too you will bring the officer to the kill site. By the time we got the bear to the truck the game warden Greg Elllison  was there to check the bear and remove a tooth for aging. How old I will find out next year. I have to say that everyone from the NH Fish and Game I have dealt with has been professional, helpfull and extremely courteous.

While I still have a couple more bear hunts this year in MB and VT this guy

is still out there and hopefully there for round four....

For  a minute there the title to the story led me to believe this was going to be a police story, LOL, I can say that being retired from the force.

Great story and photos and even a better looking bear.

Nice bear Paul!  I bet that one didn't fall off the back of the truck on the way home.
