carbon/aluminum arrow question

Do carbon and aluminium shafts require different paint to crown dip than does wood? I'd much rather crown and crest my own than to use wraps.

Don't know about Carbons, however I spray my crowns on aluminums with Rustoleum. Works fine. The finish coat after cresting is clear to protect the crest (I use acrylics for the cresting ). Make sure you clean the shaft real good. I use acetone. Hope this helps.

I dip carbons in Bohning paints, and crest with paint from Whispering Wind Arrows.  I also know someone that runs them thru white gasket lac.

Andy, I haven't made up a carbon in a long time--the last one was an Arrow Dynamics, but I dipped it in Bohning (had to make a little plug for the end of the shaft).  Prior to dipping I very lightly sanded the crown-just enough to get the glaze down and let the paint stick.  Good thing about dipping a carbon is that you can then use fletch-tite.

I use Bohning's Fletch-Lac on all shafts: wood, carbon or aluminum. I just make sure the shafts are cleaned prior to application.

I've used the Bohning lacquers on carbon and love the result but hate the fumes.  If you felt adventuresome you could get a spray paint from and see what happens.

That's what I did! I taped off the nock and the area past the crown, cleaned the shafts with denatured alcohol, primed with spray primer, and painted with sun yellow Krylon. They are drying now. So far, they look fine. I have some Fletchlac yellow, but don't really like using it and really don't like the clean up. We shall see!
