Saluki Round Up Anyone (or "Horse Bow")?

Man that's quite a unique combination of wood there.  Looks cool.  I see the Saluki logo but I can't tell which one it is (especially when unstrung).  Is that the Ibex? If so Ibex definitely wins the "Most Popular Saluki Bow" category here!

Yeah we definitely have some common threads here with the Ibex popping up the most and everybody dreading after they sold it.  

I think I need to go back and find a shop that stocks Saluki's (which is pretty much none anymore around where I live thanks to Alleghany Archers closing) and try out the Ibex.  Like I said before I couldn't remember trying it out before but I guess if I did I would have remembered it!

Well I couldn't find an Ibex that I wanted at my preferred draw weight (60-65# at 28') but I did find another Scythian (60# at 28').

Definitely one of the more artistic ones.  I'll be taking this one out for the season.

I ordered this bow from Saluki bows (Lukas Novotny) to be used as a horse bow.   I may be selling it soon. He sells these bows now for $1100. It is a Crimean Tartar (or Tatar) hybrid. This bow is historically designed for long 32-35 inch heavy war arrows.   It is a splendid and very fast bow. With tuned arrows it should shoot between 220 and 240 ft/s. I chronied 212 ft/s for it out of the box with untuned arrows. It is growing on me but I do need to sell off some bows. (Gov Sequestor).It does have the required no shelf grip for horsebow competitions. Lukas calls this a "bulbous grip" , very comfortable and very stable.  
It takes about a year and a few months for delivery now from Saluki.

Lukas' bows are too rich for my blood!  Beautiful craftsmanship, and I understand that they're really shooters!  Nah, I'll stick with my baby, a Toelke Whip.

Yes, Salukis are definitely the real thing. Lukas is a world class horse archer himself and he clearly has a passion for reproducing the power and speed of the composite horn bows of the ancient Eurasian steppes. His "hybrid" bows of bamboo and special fiberglass are pound for pound their equal but don't need to be treated like living things like the horn bows. His true horn bows are more than twice the price of his hybrids and look like museum pieces. I couldn't bear to get a scratch on one.
