its all abnout the fun anyways, i have been to compton 5 yrs running, and ski denton 4 yrs . never been to the mtb shoot, but i am betting its as much fun or better than most, going to put that on my to do list next year,  and the price, WOW thats cheap. try pricing out the ski denton shooting fees, for family of 5,  well over the cost of mtb shoot, sounds like your missing the boat on this one for quality.

Hey Steve O., we're about to be overrun with 100,000 tourists in Traverse City this weekend for the National Cherry Festival and Blue Angels air show and you're trying to send us more?!  :knothead:    ;)
Yes, this part of the state is beautiful, lot's of campgrounds, lakes and rivers and I'll bet non-archery family members would love the fill in time between weekends.

Gregg, I've shot the Florida trad shoot up in Ocala area, was there spring shoot, very nice shoot, Grayling pretty similar, not as competitive, but just as laid back!

I missed the shoot this year do to a death in the family, but I have been going to the MTB shoot for many years and it has always been fun.  The 3D and 2D course and the people are great, but to each his own.

Heck, just being in Grayling would have been good enough for me!  Been wanting to get up there and just visit the area for years.

Exactly! Just being in Grayling is worth it. I wouldnt miss this for anything.
No hunter should feel guilty for killing a deer that doesnt meet someone else's expectations.

Hookeye

Haven't been to either but the older I get the more I want a relaxing shoot.

I don't mind waiting to flip an arrow, but the long waits at local IBO shoots is irritating. Nationals? Forget that.

I want a bit of a rythm to the shoot, and to be able to bail for a few minutes if I want, hang out and blab between targets with folks.

Don't want to run a course fast, but don't want to plod, just an easy pace that allows for good focus and good times.

Sounds like the MTB is about perfect.
Twist it up, don't pluck, marinate then grill.

I've went to this shoot for years, and years, and it's always been a great time. I planed on it this year to, but things came up and I had to miss it for the first time in years. I'll make it next year one way or another.
You can't beat the camping, it's the best of any shoot i've been to.

A few snapshots of my dismal day, beautifull country, great weather and happy kids...nope dont understand why anyone would ant to go.

MAN, I wanna go to THIS shoot! My wife and I have been going to Denton for years and YES enjoying it but, it has been getting busier and busier and more cramped the last couple of years. My wife was just asking me when we were going to start going to other shoots/rendezvous now that the kids are all grown. Looks like next years vacation will be spent in MI. !! What a great looking place to spend time quietly camping and shooting!
I reckon so

Grayling is a great little town with a ton of Archery History.  If you get a chance go to the Bears Den Pizzaria.  Their place mats  contains Fred Bears life history and the place is chuck full of Bear Archery  bows and other products. It's a mini Bear Museum.

Bonebuster

I want a re-do so I can come!!!

It`s not summer without the Jamboree!!!

And.. The Lone Pine restaurant is still there too. Fred would would eat breakfast there most days. There are a number of Bear artifacts in that place too. I ate lunch there the other day. The lady that waited on us worked at "The Archery" as it was known in town then. Great place and great people. Grayling is one of my favorite places. My wife and I were married there and our sons middle name is Grayling. This place was the "Archery capital of the world" in its day. You can feel the history in the air. For you guys coming from out of state, bring your flyods and fish the Au Sable River. Its blue ribbon Trout stream, and Freds ashes are scattered along its banks of the Mason Tract according to Dick Lattimer.

Just a reminder to all those who posted that would like to go the MTB Jamboree this year. The dates are June 25th and 26th. As always FREE camping, and a chance to shoot in Fred Bear's old stomping grounds at Bear Mountain. More info is located on our web-site at:http://www.michigantraditionalbow.com/jamboree.shtml . Hope to see everyone there.
