Here's a couple photos to show you what you're after!

I did a whole Winter Doldrum hunt a while back that should be a fun read for you.  You are going with one of the best, so just do what he says and have fun!

Bill Turner

Good for you "Whip". I'd rather read about you being eaten by a gator then a catfish. Hope you get a big'un. Be safe and shoot straight.

Whip

Thanks Bill, that makes me feel a whole lot better

Terry, I've read all about your hunts down there - they are one of the things that made this trip look so attractive when I saw it on St. Jude.  Chris says that he usually stays in a cheap motel in Okechobee - maybe we'll run into you!

Just for reference, how large are those gators in the pics?

Good luck fellas!!!  I will be looking forward to hearing the story and seeing the pictures!
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Yes Joe it does . I should have read that before I went on the hunt . I thought tail roping and taping his mouth shut and doing the knife thing was too much excitement  to pass on as the bangstick seemed too conventional . Live and learn , get him dead and in the boat , that's still plenty of excitement . Tell Irene they probably won't eat you , best of luck , Fred

Whip, my daughter's was right at 10', the one hanging at 12' and the one on the concrete 9'1".

Whip, we'll be down Aug.14-18 or so. If you are there then we should definitely get together.

Good luck Joe and Woody!!

So you wouldn't recommend the knife to close the deal huh Fred?  Sure does sound exciting, I'll give you that!!

Terry, we won't be down there until the 22nd, so looks like we will miss you.

Whip, go with the knife. It makes for some great memories. I still remember vividly my good friend Jeff mumbling something to his son Daniel as my son Tyler and I were trying to "pithe" his very alive 10' gator. After a couple bone crushing bite attempts at the side of the boat, Jeff said "Daniel, get away from that dang fool and NEVER do anything remotely as dumb as what Terry is doing"!

It isn't as easy as it looks and since we were rookies, I don't think we got it quite right the first time. As we were chugging back to the boat dock and my son was sitting on the gator on the bottom of the boat he looks up and says "dad it's still alive".  As Homer Simpson would say.."Doh"!

Marty

Mr. Whip- exactly where are you gonna be? I happen to know a place around there that has some hogs. Our archery deer season opens July 31st this year! I have no idea why- so I'll be chasin whitetails while you are huntin those toothy lizards. Send me a pm and we'll talk.

I wanna return my hat for another color.

Whip

You tell me what color you want and I'll include free delivery.  ;)

Terry, I know that it is some kind of southern tradition to kiss fish you catch, but an alligator??  Do I have to do that??   :scared:

Whip a kiss is tradition in the South.  I don't recommend a French kiss though.  ;)

NoCams

Whip, now stay focused here bud..... Your mission, if you accept, is to kill a bigger cow elk this year than last. The prime backstraps will be marked with a sharpie, " Compton Camp Food " a.k.a. "For NoCams Only". You cannot be playin in them swamps with the Big Lizards and possibly miss your real mission which is cow elk backstraps !!! Now get out there in the backyard and start practicing on the 3D elk target.   :archer2:

No Jimmy, we're going to go for a full blown feast at Compton next year.  Gator tail AND elk steaks.  Only thing is I'm really kinda hoping that it will be from a big old knarly bull instead of that sweet cow.  Maybe we'll just have burgers  ;)
